When you find that you're having a twin pregnancy, what can be more exciting? You'll have twice as many babies to shower your love on, twice as many cute things to dress them in, etc. Of course, you also get the added benefit of twice the feedings, twice the diapers, and, unfortunately, twice the morning sickness.

While many women who go through a twin pregnancy only develop mild symptoms of things like morning sickness, fatigue, and extra weight gain; many experience literally double the pregnancy symptoms.

Symptoms Of Twin Pregnancy

Obviously the first thing that is going to confirm your twin pregnancy, is your first ultra-sound. With this detailed look inside the uterus, your doctor should be able to confirm the existence of two separate and distinct heartbeats. But there are earlier signs that can signal you to the possibility of a twin pregnancy.

Extra weight gain is one of the earliest symptoms of a twin pregnancy. Most women with a plural pregnancy experience a weight gain of ten pounds, or more, in their first trimester. Another sign that you may be carrying twins, is an earlier onset of morning sickness. Typically, a woman with a twin pregnancy will experience morning sickness up to fifty percent sooner than a woman with a single pregnancy.

Another early sign of twin pregnancy is fatigue. While most pregnant women experience fatigue to a degree, women carrying twins will often feel more tired sooner than those carrying only one child. Fatigue may also be caused by factors other than your twin pregnancy, such as stress or work.

It should be noted, that if you experience any of these symptoms during your pregnancy, you should not automatically assume that you are having a twin pregnancy. Symptoms of twin pregnancy often may resemble symptoms of more serious conditions such as, preeclampsia, diabetes, or other pregnancy complications.
