The Unhappiness Of An Unplanned Pregnancy

An unplanned pregnancy usually means a crisis has arisen in some unlucky female's life. Unplanned pregnancies often occur with married couples, and this too, constitutes a crisis or at least a surprise in their life. But with a married couple, there is support for the woman carrying the baby, which is not the case in a single female's life. A grown woman may have been unlucky because of a broken condom or an unexpected night of pleasure.

Today, it is rather stupid not to use protection when having sex, but we are only human and mistakes are made in the passion of the moment. Then you have the young teenage girl, who even after one sexual intercourse experience, discovers that she is pregnant. Many of these girls and women are confused, scared and at a loss at what to do. An unplanned pregnancy is a frightening experience.

The Alternatives

If keeping the baby is out of the question due to age of the mother, finances, environment or health, there are alternatives to help women face their unplanned pregnancy. First of all, there is the abortion issue. If the thought of carrying the baby to term is out of the question for whatever reason, then abortion is possibly the answer. Today, so many single women are having and raising their own children, that abortion for them is not an answer. Adoption is another answer for an unplanned pregnancy.

Of course you will have to carry the baby to term and then be able to hand it over to strangers. But just knowing that the child will have a better life than what you could possibly give, is sometimes a comforting thought. It's saying goodbye after nine months of nurturing which is the unhappiest moment of this decision. Of course there are many different ways to handle adoption these days.

Perhaps you won't be saying goodbye to your child, just not raising him. Unplanned pregnancies are just not pleasant for anyone involved. A lot of grandparents end up raising their grandchildren because of an unplanned pregnancy. Just when life came back to the retired couple, their duties as parents were resurrected.

Unplanned pregnancies should be on the downswing with all of the birth control on the market today. Birth control is given away at free clinics and there are monthly shots to prevent pregnancy. Sex education in schools has helped greatly with the problem of unplanned pregnancies, as has all of the mass marketing in the world today on sexually transmitted diseases. There should not be any unplanned pregnancies, but as long as there is man and there is woman, the deed will be done, whether with or without birth control.
