Heartburn In Pregnancy
Heartburn in pregnancy can make a difficult situation even more uncomfortable for a woman. Often it is hard enough just being pregnant, let alone having constant heartburn to boot. But this is the challenge that some women face when they are pregnant.
Heartburn in pregnancy is most common in the third trimester; however some women report heartburn as an early pregnancy sign as well. This is due to hormones and often comes along with other early pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and heightened senses.
If you are suffering from heartburn in pregnancy, there are a few actions you can take to minimize the discomfort. The first is to raise yourself up at night. That is, add an extra pillow. Although this may see uncomfortable at first, it is a lot better for you as your stomach acids will stay where they are meant to. It's also fantastic for riding yourself of under eye bags and shadows - sleeping with your head raised a little stops fluid building up in these sensitive areas.
Heartburn during pregnancy is actually very common, with around fifty percent of women suffering from it as some point. Heartburn occurs because stomach acids are flowing into the esophagus due to a relaxing of the muscle that is meant to stop it from happening. This muscle is relaxed due to pregnancy hormones being active.
Some women get heartburn during pregnancy because they are not eating right, or are simply eating too fast and too many large meals. Keeping your meals small and your eating speed at a slow pace will combat many occurrences of heartburn in pregnancy.
Heartburn in pregnancy is generally not a serious condition, it is merely the uncomfortable nature of it that tends to concern women. Antacids can be taken, however you should confirm with your doctor about which ones are safe to take when pregnant. You certainly don't want to be ingesting any ingredients that are not good for your growing baby.
