There are several stages of pregnancy and several stages of labor and birth. But for the purposes of this article, we will restrict the information to the stages of pregnancy. As a matter for consideration, prior to getting pregnant, there are some important things to do in order for your body to be in its best health for preparation before conception. And conception is the very first pregnancy stage. But before conception and the early stage of pregnancy, the woman's body must ovulate. When the ripened egg is released by the ovary, it travels through the fallopian tube where it will be penetrated by the sperm and become fertilized. This is conception.

After this initial stage of pregnancy, post ovulation, the Carnegie stages of pregnancy begin. During the first nine weeks of pregnancy all the essential organs and systems of the fetus form, but are not yet able to sustain independent life. The 23 Carnegie Stages of pregnancy describe the internal and external physical characteristics of the embryo during this stage of pregnancy or what is also referred to as the first trimester.

The second trimester or next stage of pregnancy is when the organs and systems continue to develop. The second stage of pregnancy technically begins in week 13. During this stage of pregnancy, the woman usually begins to feel the baby's movement and starts growing around the middle so that she will need to start wearing maternity clothing. Entering this stage of pregnancy, most fears of miscarriage dissipate and so do many of the earlier symptoms of nausea and fatigue. This stage of pregnancy is generally the most enjoyable. The size of the fetus doesn't weigh to heavily on the woman's body so backache and sleep disturbance are rarely issues. And generally, women have lots of energy and feel really good during the second trimester or stage of pregnancy.

The third and final stage of pregnancy, or third trimester, weeks 27 until birth, can start to be more draining. This is the home stretch and a time when a woman begins to prepare for the birth of her baby. Along with the physical changes that are going on, this stage of pregnancy will usually include enrollment in childbirth preparation classes, reading about birth and breast feeding and even packing a bag for the hospital if that is where the birth will take place. If a home birth is planned, then preparations for that need to take place, renting or buying supplies that might include a tub for a water birth. During this last stage of pregnancy, fatigue may become an issue and lots of pressure on the bladder. Also, the uterus will begin preparing for the birth and the woman may be aware of Braxton Hicks contractions, or what are sometimes referred to as false labor. These contractions can be quite strong, but are usually not experienced in any pattern that would indicate real labor.

Finally, the last stage of pregnancy is the birth itself. Throughout pregnancy and labor, it is always important to keep your healthcare provider informed of any changes or concerns you might experience so that she can assess the situation.

This is a short, simple basic guide for stages of pregnancy. It will cover the general stages and what happens during a normal pregnancy. Not all pregnancies will progress exactly as indicated in this basic guide for stages of pregnancy, but it should give women who have never been pregnant, and the men around them, an idea of what will occur during the pregnancy. Good prenatal care is important during all stages. It is also helpful if the woman and her partner develop a good relationship with her doctor, who can expand on this basic guide for stages of pregnancy and provide details pertinent to each specific pregnancy.

The first detail in this basic guide for stages of pregnancy is the fact that a normal pregnancy is considered to last for 40 weeks, which is divided into sections called trimesters. Each trimester lasts about 13 weeks. Most people discuss the development of the fetus according to the trimester of development.

Since the changes can be subtle in the beginning stages of pregnancy, many women may not know they are pregnant until they develop morning sickness. Frequently, however, women will think that they are sick and not associate the nausea and the vomiting with a pregnancy. This "morning" sickness can actually occur at any time of the day. It is a result of the changes in the hormonal levels in the woman's body and, after about the first month, the addition of the hormones produced by the fetus. These hormonal fluctuations can result in some of the food cravings pregnant woman have been known to have, as well as some unexpected and unusual mood swings. Generally, these mood swings become less frequent after the second trimester begins.

In the second trimester of this basic guide for stages of pregnancy, a woman's body has generally adjusted to the presence of the fetus. The fetus has started to develop its own individual organs and identifiable features. The mother will start a noticeable weight gain. This weight gain is natural but it should not become too fast or too much, especially if it is a first pregnancy. A rapid and considerable weight gain may be the sign of a multiple birth, but it may also indicate problems with the fetus or the mother's health.

During the last trimester, the fetus has developed all its own organs and most of these organs are functional. At about the 30th week of the pregnancy, the fetus could survive on its own with some technological medical help if it had to be delivered. If delivered at this time, the fetus would, however, be considered a premature birth. Generally, most physicians prefer to have the delivery when the fetus achieves the age of 38 to 40 weeks.

During this last trimester, the woman will feel uncomfortable and cranky because of the pressures applied by the fetus on her own internal organs. She will also have more back problems and probably need to urinate more frequently. She will possibly find it difficult to sleep, which will add to her fatigue and discomfort.

This basic guide for stages of pregnancy has covered only some of the major milestones of an average pregnancy. More accurate and specific detail can be obtained from a frank conversation with the woman's physician.

Many people believe all good things happen in stages. Life itself is a series of milestones and stages, the life cycle of insects comes in stages. It only makes sense that one of the most meaningful events in a woman's life happens in stages as well. The stages of pregnancy bring a lot of change to the mother to be's body, life, and relationships. Embarking on this journey takes fortitude, as anyone who has ever dealt with morning sickness can tell you, and understanding of the natural changes occurring in your body.

The stages of pregnancy are normally broken into three month periods referred to as trimesters. Although not necessarily visible on the outside many exciting things are happening inside the uterus. Even before mom knows she is pregnant, amazing things are taking place. The fetal cells are divided at a tremendous rate and the mother's hormone levels are in a constant state of surge. Some lucky ones bypass this symptom, but this is the time when morning sickness may occur and breast tenderness is common. Before the end of the trimester the baby has a heartbeat and can move his or her tiny arms and legs.

Many pregnant women call the second trimester among their favorites of the stages of pregnancy. The discomforts of the first trimester fade away and the uterus isn't so large yet as to make every activity uncomfortable or difficult. However some new discomforts may take their place. Practice contractions called Braxton Hicks, may start during this stage and finding a comfortable sleeping position may be more difficult. The mom to be is able to feel the baby's movements and in some cases, other people may be able to feel or see the movements as well.

In the final stages of pregnancy, a lot of changes occur. The baby is packing on weight at an enormous rate of speed. Mom's abdomen appears to be taking on a life of its own in how large and distended it becomes. The third trimester is a good time to take any childbirth and breastfeeding classes that the mother feels are important. Fetal movement may slow some as the due date approaches. It usually isn't a cause for alarm; space is at a premium at this time. The important things to remember at this stage is to get plenty of rest, eat well, and enjoy the final days before the birth of your baby.

The stages of pregnancy are full of new and unique experiences for the first time mom as well as veterans. Each and every pregnancy is different just like every child is unique.

Technically, the embryo doesn't develop until the end of the first week after the egg becomes fertilized. At the moment of fertilization, the fertilized egg is considered a zygote. The zygote contains all the DNA material that it needs to produce a human child. The zygote floats through the fallopian tubes, continuing to reproduce new cells as it travels. These cells join at the ends, becoming a circle that allows cellular development on the outside and the inside of the circle. If the zygote is going to split into two, thus allowing the development of twins, the split will usually occur before the pregnancy stage of embryo begins. Only after the zygote attaches itself to the uterine lining does the pregnancy stage of embryo officially start. The end of the pregnancy stage of embryo is usually about week 8 when the embryo officially develops into the fetus.

The embryo starts a process of differentiating its cells. This differentiation allows the cells to develop into the individual organs, including the skin, the liver, the heart, as well as developing into the buds that will later become the arms, legs and head of the fetus. If any major problems develop, for whatever reason, the embryo will be spontaneously aborted, causing a miscarriage. Many miscarriages occur during the first trimester of a pregnancy and many of them occur during this pregnancy stage of embryo, because the DNA recognizes that there is a problem with its own development.

During the pregnancy stage of embryo, the cellular differentiation works on the circular construction. The outside edge of the rounded embryo becomes the beginnings of the head and spinal cord. As the embryo develops, the circular shape becomes distorted and the other cells begin to form other parts of the embryo. Most of this development occurs within a relatively short period of time, considering the amount of differentiation that is necessary.

During the earliest weeks of the pregnancy stage of embryo, a woman might not realize she is pregnant. The embryo is so tiny, less than 1/5 of an inch, and the cells haven't differentiated, so the mother's body may not yet react noticeably to the embryo. As the cells differentiate, the embryo begins producing its own hormones. These hormones, combined with the mother's hormones, can cause mood swings or food cravings that the mother won't usually experience. As the embryo further develops, the mother's body has to adjust to the presence of the embryo. These adjustments might also result in morning sickness. The mother's body generally completes its adjustment to the pregnancy during the first part of the next stage of development: the fetal stage.

The baby will soon be here. You might have been scared when you first discovered you were to become a father. At some point, you probably got excited. You likely had ideas about what was going to happen to you and your partner. If you have never experienced a woman's pregnancy first hand, you have probably been surprised by some of the things you have seen. So, what can you expect for the pregnancy stages last month?

In many respects, your lives will stabilize. Your partner is probably over the mood swings and you have become accustomed to odd food cravings. Now, if you haven't already noticed, you can't take your partner far without being aware of the location of the bathrooms. In the pregnancy stages last month, the fetus has settled into your partner's pelvis, getting ready for the trip down the birth canal. That means that the fetus is pressing against its mother's bladder almost constantly.

As the fetus shifts its position for the birth, it will probably apply a lot of pressure to the expectant mother's other internal organs and to her spine. If you think about what it would be like to carry a twenty pound box in front of you for several weeks, you might begin to understand why your partner gets so tired so easily and why she can't get comfortable when she sits or attempts to sleep. If the expectant mother is expecting a multiple birth, her increased weight, the pressure against her back and the lack of a good night's sleep will explain some of the crankiness and irritability that can be present in the pregnancy stages last month. She might even get upset with you, but do not take this personally.

Your partner may or may not have done some housecleaning and rearranging of furniture in the beginning of the pregnancy. She might go through another such period again in the pregnancy stages last month. The arrival of the baby will be soon. The mother probably knows that she won't get much chance to prepare or arrange things for the baby after it comes home, so she will do her last minute preparations now, while she has a little time, and while she really doesn't have the energy to do much else. Her lack of energy might even mean that she will want YOU to do some of the heavier work.

Generally, in the pregnancy stages last month, the fetus is fully grown and only gaining the weight it needs to survive on its own, so very little changes in the mother. The mother is waiting for the grand day she delivers the baby. Then the rest of your new lives begin.

Once a woman has reached the pregnancy stages, last trimester, she becomes increasingly eager for the birth. The fetus has accomplished most of its development. All the facial features are obvious. The fingers and toes are well-formed. In fact, it is even possible for the fetus to suck its thumb at this stage.

Much of what happens during this last trimester strengthens what already exists. For example, the lungs have now been completely formed and the fetus could begin breathing air if it had to. The additional few weeks of the pregnancy will allow those tiny lungs to develop and strengthen even more, limiting the possibility of early breathing problems.

The brain of the fetus is also developing. The basic components of the brain now exist, but it is smooth and doesn't have the wrinkles that are generally associated with brain development. The last several weeks of the pregnancy stages, last trimester allow the brain time to grow, curving in upon itself, thus developing the familiar wrinkles.

The bones of the fetus are all developed and present, but they are still pliable, which will make the birth process easier. After the delivery, some of the bones will harden and fuse. The fact that the bones are present means that the bone marrow can produce red blood cells. Again, the fetus could survive if delivered early, but extra weeks of development will allow the bone marrow to refine its capability and produce more red blood cells.

The fetus is almost ready to survive on its own. In the pregnancy stages, last trimester, during week 30, the fetus could be delivered, though it would be considered premature. In most cases, some form of medical help would be needed to allow the newborn to grow large enough that the physician will allow the mother to take the infant home. By week 38 of the pregnancy stages, last trimester, the fetus could be delivered and not need medical help to survive, but most physicians would rather wait for week 40 before the baby is delivered. These last two weeks allow the fetus to gain additional weight.

During the pregnancy stages, last trimester, the fetus doesn't have much room to move. Much of the movement is by the hands and feet, but generally, the fetus is making a shift to prepare itself to exit the birth canal. It is gaining weight more quickly than it is gaining length. Mothers will notice that the fetus will respond to sudden, loud noises. It will also respond to soothing sounds, such as the mother's voice.

As the fetus positions itself for birth, it will sink into the pelvic area. This will cause pressure on the bladder and the expectant mother will find herself making frequent trips to the bathroom. She may also experience false labor pains. Ideally, the expectant mother will have asked her physician plenty of questions and she will be prepared for the birth of her baby.

Understanding each stage of pregnancy is incredibly important, especially if you are planning to or already are pregnant. As well, it is certainly exciting to watch each stage of pregnancy, as you will get to see your baby grow and make note of and track the changes as they take place.

What is Each Stage of Pregnancy?

There are basically three different stages of pregnancy, which are: the first, second, and third trimester. Basically, the first trimester of pregnancy lasts for three and a half months, and it is during this stage of pregnancy where you may experience morning sickness, as well as sore and enlarged breasts.

It is this stage of pregnancy in which it is vital that you get enough vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, as they are essential for the growth and development of the baby. In regards to nutrition and exercise, it is important that you: receive at least 2200 calories a day; eat well balanced, healthy meals which contain adequate fiber as to promote that of baby's health and mother's energy and comfort; avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco, eat small and more frequent meals which may also help a nauseous woman to get good nutrition.

In regards to the second trimester, this typically lasts until the end of the seventh month of pregnancy, and is basically considered as being the easiest stage of pregnancy, as most women will generally start to regain some of their energy. As well, it is during this stage in which the woman's stomach begins to expand, and usually it is around this time that the morning sickness will begin to dissipate, and you also may begin to start feeling your baby kick and move around more.

Once you enter the third trimester, you may begin to notice that you are feeling more sensitive, as well as more emotional and more anxious as the hormones and excitement begin to kick in even more. It is natural for these feelings to be felt, and it is important to know this because many women feel completely not like themselves at this point.

It is incredibly important to learn about and understand the different stages of pregnancy, especially if you are or are planning on getting pregnant, so that you will not feel confused but rather comfortable in regards to the transformations that are taking place outside and inside your body.

Sometimes, women wonder if they are going to have more than one baby. Women who may be pregnant with twins for the first birth generally come from families with a high incidence of twins, have been taking fertility drugs or are at an advanced age. Frequently, women who wait until they are in their thirties to have their first child may release more than one egg. This then increases the chances of having a multiple birth.

Sometimes, a woman who has already given birth will believe that she is gaining weight faster than she did with the first pregnancy. This is normal. Her internal organs have already been stretched by the first pregnancy, so they will respond somewhat differently during subsequent pregnancies.

The stages of pregnancy with twins aren't much different than the stages of pregnancy for a single child, but these stages may be more pronounced. During the first stages of pregnancy with twins, the first weeks aren't that much different than that of the first weeks of a pregnancy with a single child. The fetus during the first weeks of any pregnancy is so small that it would be difficult to detect by the woman or even modern medical technology. Some mothers report that they have more severe morning sickness when they are in the stages of pregnancy with twins, but that may not be a reliable indicator if a woman is pregnant for the first time.

As indicated earlier, increased weight gain during the first trimester can be due simply to the increased size of a woman's uterus, if she has had prior pregnancies. During the second and third stages of pregnancy with twins, weight gain with twins would be more noticeable. If a woman gains more than fifteen pounds by the end of the second trimester, her physician may need to run tests and take an ultrasound to see if a second fetus is evident. It is during those third and last stages of pregnancy with twins that potential problems can result.

The fetuses generally develop in the same way and at the same rate as single births. This isn't a problem when the fetuses are small. Problems may occur when the fetuses get to be considerably larger. At this time, the mother will be increasingly uncomfortable because of her weight gain. The fetuses won't have as much room to maneuver as a single fetus and many multiple births have premature deliveries. If the fetuses can be kept in the mother's uterus as long as possible after the 30th week of the pregnancy, the fetuses have a better chance of surviving on their own. Once born, they will develop at the same rate as any other child.

So, you just discovered your partner is pregnant. You have heard a lot about pregnancy, but now it is happening to you, or rather, your partner. What does this mean for her? What are the pregnancy stages first month and how will the pregnancy affect your life?

The pregnancy stages first month may be relatively uneventful. In all probability, much of what happens during this time will have been completed by the time you even learn your partner is pregnant. A lot of people think that a woman won't have a menstrual period after she conceives, but this is not always true. She might be in the pregnancy stages first month, or even after that, before she realizes she is pregnant. Most of the behavior changes that occur in pregnant women happen after the fetus has gotten large enough to cause some noticeable weight gain. During the pregnancy stages first month, the fetus is still an embryo and not large enough to cause many changes in how the woman feels.

Sometimes, the first clue that a woman might be pregnant is when she has develops a nausea that doesn't seem to do away. The woman may try a lot of things, because she may think she only has a cold or a bad case of indigestion. If your partner has had several days, or weeks, of nausea and vomiting, it is a good idea to take her to a doctor. She may be sick; however, there is a chance she may be pregnant. Don't be fooled by the name, by the way. "Morning sickness" can take place any time during the day. It is a good idea if you can make sure your partner eats a healthy diet and drinks a lot of water during the pregnancy, especially now. If she can't keep down all the food she eats, what she does eat should be nutritious. She may also become dehydrated, which is why she will need to drink more water than she usually does.

The next pregnancy stages first month that might be noticeable could be mood fluctuations. Sometimes these really start in the second month, but subtle shifts in her moods might be seen before the end of the first month. These shifts are caused by the change in her hormones. The embryo is also beginning to produce hormones. The mixture of hormones causes many mood fluctuations and frequently even some strange food cravings. Since the embryo hasn't gotten large enough to produce a lot of hormones, these mood swings and food cravings aren't noticeable until the end of the pregnancy stages first month, but they will indicate a new phase of the pregnancy is beginning.

There are three major stages of pregnancy. These are called "trimesters" and generally last about thirteen weeks. The stages of pregnancy each have different characteristics.

The first of the stages of pregnancy, commonly referred to as the first trimester, is the easiest to miss. Many women may not know they are even pregnant until the end of the first trimester. In some women, morning sickness develops. This is because the woman's body is getting itself acclimated to its new condition. A woman's body needs to change to enable it to nourish both the baby and the mother. These shifts in a woman's condition cause a variety of natural functions to shift as well.

The major change is the growing size of the uterus. The uterus will cause increased pressure on near-by organs such as the bladder. Later, as the uterus gains rapidly in size, the fetus will put pressure on the back and can cause the woman back pain. The growing uterus may also cause a woman's posture to change, which can also cause back problems.

In the second of the stages of pregnancy, the woman can experience an ebb and flow of emotions as well as cravings. These changes are frequently caused by changes in the woman's hormone patterns. Some of these changes may be aggravated by lack of sleep and a less than healthy diet. Women who don't consume a healthy diet under normal conditions should do want they can to eat a healthy diet while they are pregnant. The appropriate nutrients will help the woman feel better, her physical system will work more appropriately, and she will give her baby a better diet than if the pregnant woman eats a poor diet. Women should check with their doctors if they are on calorie reduction diets when they become pregnant. Diets that might be appropriate for a healthy non-pregnant woman may not be appropriate for a pregnant woman.

The last of the stages of pregnancy, the third trimester, the woman may feel eager for the child's birth. Many women experience back pain and difficulty sleeping. If a woman has eaten a healthy diet and monitored her weight gain, she can minimize much of the discomfort she might feel in the weeks before the baby's birth. The closer a woman get's to the end of her stages of pregnancy, the more rest she needs. Her body is functioning for two and the stresses, even though she may want the baby very much, are difficult on the relatively cramped internal conditions of the woman's body. If a woman follows her doctor's advice, eats a healthy diet, drinks a lot of water, and gets plenty of rest, the stages of pregnancy should be less stressful and help her to deliver a healthy child.

When a woman discovers she is pregnant, she and her partner frequently want to learn what will be happening to her. They want to know how the fetus will develop during the next several months. Pictures of stages of pregnancy can help them better understand the process.

A pregnancy lasts approximately 40 weeks. This period is divided into trimesters of approximately thirteen weeks each. Pictures of stages of pregnancy can be classified by the week of the pregnancy or by the trimester. Frequently, pictures of stages of pregnancy will first be found by indicating the trimester of the pregnancy. Once that has been identified, one can then search for pictures of a particular week.

During the first trimester, the fertilized egg develops into a fetus with recognizable human characteristics. In the first two or three weeks, the fertilized egg is called a zygote and it floats through the fallopian tubes until it attaches itself to the uterus. By the third week, the zygote has gotten large enough to be considered an embryo. Though larger, the embryo is still too small to be noticeable, except with high-level technology, so few pictures of this stage will be available.

During the weeks of the first trimester, the embryo grows and develops the nubs that will become the head, the arms and the legs and it is referred to as a fetus. By the end of the first trimester, the fetus will have grown to about to of an inch. Since the fetus is so small, there will be few recognizable details in any pictures.

Most of the common pictures of stages of pregnancy are done by ultrasound. Ultrasound is similar to sonar. A tool much like a stethoscope is placed on the woman's belly and sounds that cannot be heard by humans are sent into the belly. These sounds produce signals which bounce back to a screen. The screen displays a picture that is very similar to a black and white photograph. With ultrasound, it is possible to actually see the fetus as it develops.

During the second trimester, pictures of stages of pregnancy begin to show more recognizable detail. The fetus grows in size during this period and its organs begun to function on their own. Arms and legs become recognizable and fingers and toes begin to develop. The fetus begins to move on its own. In the early weeks of this trimester, the fetus is so small that the gender may not be known if the fetus is not in a good position for a picture. As the trimester progresses, the fetus gets larger and more detail will emerge. Most ultrasound pictures start to be taken during this stage of the pregnancy.

During the third trimester, pictures of stages of pregnancy show a fetus that is recognizable as a human infant. Most of the organs have developed by week 30; the last several weeks of the pregnancy allow the fetus to gain weight and a layer of fat that will allow the baby to survive on its own after delivery. Pictures look very similar to first baby pictures.

Generally, pregnancies are welcomed with smiles and anticipation. Most people look forward to the arrival of a baby. A lot of people are vaguely aware of some of the things that will happen to the expectant mother during her pregnancy, but there are also some points along the way that can be potential problems. Being aware of the stages of pregnancy development can help others, and the mother, know what to expect, and how to prepare for certain situations.

One of the first potential problems in the stages of pregnancy development is what is euphemistically called "morning sickness". The name seems to indicate that the woman will get sick only in the morning. Not all women get morning sickness; many women will get the nausea and experience vomiting during various parts of the day. Generally, this isn't a problem because most people have experienced some degree of nausea at some point in their lives. If, however, the woman experiences "morning sickness" in the late afternoon or evening, she might not think she is pregnant. If she is pregnant, the expectant mother needs to be careful to eat a good, balanced, healthy diet at this point. What she eats will manufacture the nutrients that will feed the embryo. Empty calories won't help get the embryo started out in the best way possible. She also needs to drink lots of water. This will keep her and the embryo hydrated during the period of its initial growth.

One of the next stages of pregnancy development that could cause a problem will be a period in about the second to the fourth month of the pregnancy. The mother's body will have adjusted to the fetus inside her and will be feeling a contentment and well-being that is good, but she needs to start getting more rest and sleep. She might feel so good, that she wants to engage in a lot of activity. Much of this can be beneficial to both the mother and the baby, but others may worry. It is at this time that the mother might want to discuss the activity with her doctor, just to make sure she isn't overdoing anything.

All during the stages of pregnancy development, the mother needs to watch her weight gain. She may have experienced some unusual food cravings. She might start believing that since she is "eating for two" she will need to eat a lot more than she usually does. This is not true. The fetus generally will get all the nutrients it needs from the mother's regular diet. It the mother gains too much weight, the extra weight could cause a problem for the fetus, and it may cause a problem for the mother, especially after the baby's birth. If the mother has any tendency toward problems like high blood pressure or diabetes, her diet will be especially important during all stages of pregnancy development.

Some women may think that they know enough about pregnancy that they don't need to worry about anything special during the stages of pregnancy development. A woman can never take the development of a pregnancy for granted. It is always a good idea for her to develop a good relationship with her physician. Those who know her, like her family and her partner, may want to encourage her to get good prenatal care for the sake of both the woman and the baby.

From the first moment that the cells begin to divide and create an embryo, fetal development and the stages of pregnancy progress in an established sequence. When the egg is fertilized, a zygote develops. In this first stage, which takes place during the first two weeks of the pregnancy, the cells multiply and develop.

The next phase of fetal development and the stages of pregnancy occurs when the zygote becomes an embryo. During week three, the embryo starts to develop the buds that will become the arms and legs of the fetus. The digestive system also has rudimentary beginnings at this time.

By the fifth week of fetal development and the stages of pregnancy, the facial features have started to form. The embryo has started to produce hormones and the presence of these hormones stop the mother's menstrual cycle. When the embryo becomes about an inch long, about the sixth week of the fetal development and the stages of pregnancy, the brain has begun to develop its component parts; facial features, toes and fingers are noticeable and a heartbeat can be detected in an ultrasound test.

During the next several weeks, the organs continue to develop and the features become more distinguishable. The genitalia form, though they can not be distinguished at this stage in an ultrasound. Bones are beginning to form and the muscles can contract. By the end of the first trimester, the fetus is approximately three inches in length and weighs only about an ounce.

During the second trimester of fetal development and the stages of pregnancy, the fetus continues to develop the characteristics that make it recognizable as a human baby. Development has progressed to the point that the fetus will start to move slightly; it is during this time that a mother will start to feel movement. As this period progresses, the fetus will develop waking and sleeping cycles that the mother will soon be able to detect and recognize. At about the 24th week, a normally developed fetus is about twelve inches long and weighs about 2 pounds. It would be able to survive, with the help of current medical technology, if it were delivered.

During the last weeks of fetal development and the stages of pregnancy, or the third trimester, the bones are developed, though they are still pliable. The fetus can inhale, exhale, and even cry. The eyelids open and the lungs continue to develop until the moment of birth. The fetus gains in size and moves less because there is less room to maneuver. Most of the movement occurs as the fetus shifts its position in preparation for birth.

At the age of 30 weeks, the fetus would be small and considered premature, but it could be capable of living on its own if it were delivered. The fetus is considered fully developed at the age of 38 weeks and would be fully capable of living on its own if delivered, though the normal delivery date is considered to be at the end of the 40th week.

In this age of technological wonders, people seem to need more and more bells and whistles to get their attention. The commonplace seems so "common" that many people don't give any thought to the day to day aspects of life. One of those common experiences is pregnancy. The pregnancy itself may still be a marvel to those who experience it, but people, at least those who live in a Western society, seem to think that all pregnancies are successful. This is not true. If there is someone pregnant in your life, especially if that someone is your partner, it might be helpful if you started learning stages of pregnancy so you could understand what happens to a woman when she is pregnant. Learning stages of pregnancy could also be helpful if you learn to recognize some of the signs that a problem might be happening.

While pregnancy seems like a purely female activity, men could benefit from learning stages of pregnancy. Unless they are physicians, or deal with pregnancy on a daily basis, some men find the process confusing and intimidating. They may want to distance themselves from the process. This can be a problem if the woman believes that her partner is uninterested and their relationship might suffer at a time that could bring them even closer.
Learning stages of pregnancy can help a man understand that some of what happens to a woman is not always under her control.

The most obvious example of this is the fact that many pregnant women have mood swings during the early stages of their pregnancies. These mood swings are a result of the hormone imbalance in the woman's body as she gets the fetus started on its development. The fetus also starts producing hormones and these, combined with the mother's hormones, disrupt the mother's system. If her partner understands that many of a woman's emotions are due to this situation, he can weather the emotional changes more smoothly.

While most pregnancies proceed as expected, some pregnancies can have problems. If a woman has concerns about what is happening to her, her anxiety can be lessened if she knows that her partner understands the process, as best he can, and is willing to help her through any difficulty. Sometimes, just knowing that her partner is willing to learn, understand, and help her through the pregnancy will make the pregnancy a lot easier for the woman.

Learning stages of pregnancy can also help a couple explain the course of the pregnancy to their other children, if there are any in the home. The couple can also better plan for what is yet to come in the pregnancy, and as they begin to plan for their family after the baby is born.

There are books about every conceivable aspect of a pregnancy. If one were able to, the expectant mother and/or her partner could spend the entire pregnancy reading about different issues that occur during a pregnancy. Some people don't have time to read, or prefer using the computer. If you are one of those people, you can probably find an online forum about stages of pregnancy and just about any other topic pertaining to pregnancy.

Women and their partners who have been through at least one pregnancy may have specific information that they want. In that case, they can find an online forum about stages of pregnancy pertaining to their specific issues. Women who have never been pregnant will find forums on every conceivable topic. They need to be aware that not every online forum about stages of pregnancy is appropriate for their needs.

An online forum about stages of pregnancy may advocate a particular kind of treatment during the pregnancy. While the forum members may seem kind and understanding, each woman needs to talk to her doctor to learn if certain treatments and activities are appropriate for her pregnancy. It is entirely possible that a woman could engage in a lot of physical activity during one pregnancy, but find that the same activity would be inappropriate during another pregnancy.

A woman, or her partner, should be aware of who sponsors the forum. Some forums are developed by individuals who want to support each other. Some forums can be sponsored by organizations that produce and sell a particular product. Some forums will try to convince every woman that their particular ideas are the best for each and every pregnancy. Women need to be aware if the owners or the members of a particular forum have an agenda that might not be appropriate for every woman.

Each pregnancy is different. Each woman is different. A woman may find that she has an easier time with subsequent pregnancies. She may find that each pregnancy is more difficult. There are a variety of reasons for these differences and a woman should discuss them with her physician, rather than relying on an online forum about stages of pregnancy. The physician will usually know the woman's specific health issues, as well as those of the fetus. This information may not be conveyed online. A woman may not totally understand the implications of her condition.

Online forums can be supportive. Online forums can get the woman to think about things that she might not otherwise consider. Each woman needs to recognize that an online forum about stages of pregnancy is to help her with basic questions, or to realize that she is not alone when she experiences some of the changes that will occur during the pregnancy.

Once she confirms that she is pregnant, a woman may want to learn all she can about pregnancy, what happens to her and what she can expect. In many cases, her partner may also want some similar information. Other people close to the expectant parents may want to know more about the pregnancy. There are any stages of pregnancy books on the market. These books can cover topics that a woman may never have considered.

Some stages of pregnancy books will be very technical, describing in detail every day and every change that occurs during the process of the pregnancy. There are books that discuss only a particular trimester, or a particular stage of the pregnancy. Some stages of pregnancy books are more general and will provide only the basic guidelines of pregnancy. Each woman will need to assess her own needs and interests and decide what kind of stages of pregnancy books are of interest to her. It is possible that a woman might only be interested in the general details of her pregnancy, but she may search for a very detailed volume for her partner. He, of course, won't be as intimately aware of all the changes, so a detailed book might be a good choice.

Some stages of pregnancy books are available for children. These would be important if a woman already has children in her home. She might need no information for herself, but she might want to locate a book that could help her explain the process of the pregnancy to children. These books are available for every level of a child's understanding and were written specifically to help them understand what is happening.

There are stages of pregnancy books that are written to explain appropriate exercises to do during each month of the pregnancy. Other books discuss diet and activities to help the mother feel better during the pregnancy.

An expectant mother, especially for a first time pregnancy, may want to investigate stages of pregnancy books that will allow her to record her experiences during the pregnancy. Some women want to record the experience for each pregnancy so that the experiences may later be shared with the child.

If a woman and her partner have access to a computer, a library or a well-stocked book store, books can be found on any aspect of any stage of the pregnancy. These books can explain how to get pregnant, what to do if there are problems during the pregnancy and how to survive the pregnancy without gaining too much weight. In all probability, if a woman or her partner have any question about pregnancy, there are stages of pregnancy books to cover every conceivable topic.

Congratulations! You're pregnant! Regardless of who you are or if this is the first pregnancy or not, there are probably a lot of things going through your head right now. "You" may be the expectant mother, the father, or even a close relative or friend, but you somehow feel as if you are connected to the pregnancy and that it will affect your life. You are probably correct, since a baby does tend to change the lives of the adults around it.

So, what do you do now? That obviously depends on who you are. That also will depend on the stages of pregnancy status of the expectant mother. The expectant mother generally will visit her primary care physician who may, or may not, refer her to a specialist. There are a variety of tests she will take, and things she will do and her physician should keep her informed of the stages of pregnancy and what to expect. What happens, however, if you are involved in the pregnancy but aren't the mother?

If you have been pregnant, or known other pregnant women, you probably have an idea what will happen during the next several months. If you haven't really paid attention in the past, you probably want a short summary of what to expect during the stages of pregnancy.

In the very first few weeks, there may be no obvious changes in the mother. She might not even know she is/was pregnant. Early in the pregnancy, many women suffer from "morning sickness", which can really happen during any time of the day. This morning sickness may have bothered her enough that she went to the doctor and then discovered she was pregnant. This may be surprising information. The mother may react in many different ways. She may have many different moods during the next few weeks, and that will most likely be connected with the changes in her body.

During the first few weeks, the mother's hormones are adjusting to the fetus within her. Her emotions will react to those changes. Her moods will shift, and she may not even be aware that they have. After about the first two months or so, her moods will stabilize. She will start gaining weight, and start thinking about what to do when the baby comes. She may start cleaning house and throwing away things she has kept for years. Again, this is normal. She is planning for the arrival of the newborn baby.

For the middle stages of pregnancy, she will talk about the pregnancy and do the things she might have done before she learned she was pregnant. In the last two months or so, she will get increasingly tired and eager for the pregnancy to end. The fetus is getting larger and shifting its position. Since the fetus will press against her bladder, the mother will need to go to the bathroom frequently. Her weight is in her front, so her back will hurt. She may again engage in a burst of housecleaning, in preparation for the baby.
In the last stages of pregnancy, the expectant mother may become more focused on her discomfort since she has been living with it constantly. She will be eager for the delivery. She may not pay as much attention to others as she once did, but that is normal and to be expected. The baby will be in her charge for several years and she is beginning to make plans for that new life.

Pregnancy stages information is usually readily available for the woman who has just learned she is pregnant. Some information is becoming more available for the men in the woman's life. Sometimes, pregnancy stages information for children can be harder to find.

There is such a variety of children's ages and readiness to understand the pregnancy that people don't know what to tell the child. Adults need to look at how the child absorbs other information. Some children will not want or need a lot of information. Other children will seek pregnancy stages information themselves.

One of the first issues to consider is the relationship of the child to the expectant mother. The expectant mother can be the child's mother, another relative, the mother of a friend, a neighbor, a teacher, or any other woman who might be close to the child. Closely connected to this particular issue will be the age of the child. Some mothers may not want their small children to ask too many questions or be told too much information. Other people may want to tell the child everything about the pregnancy that the child wants to know. This can cause a conflict and the adults should discuss the situation, if at all possible, before the child learns about the pregnancy.

Young children usually have a lot of questions about pregnancy stages information. They may not, however, be the same questions that adults have. When a small child asks a question, it is usually a good idea to learn exactly what the child wants to know. Many times, the child's question may not be what the adult thinks it is. For example, a child might ask where a baby came from. Some adults may find this awkward, but if one carefully questions the child, he or she may only want to know the name of the hospital and if the baby knows the child's doctor!

If a younger child has older siblings or is frequently around older children, the young child's mother might find it helpful to give all the children some pregnancy stages information at the same time. The mother can then have more control over what the younger child hears, as well as give the older children some guidance on how much information to give to the younger child.

One also needs to consider how interested the child is in the pregnancy. If the child has seen several pregnant women, the child may consider it a normal situation and have few questions. Parents should give the young child some information, but they don't need to give the child any more information than he or she wants at that particular time. It is a good idea, however, for the parents to let the young child know that he or she can ask questions about pregnancy stages information when the child does have questions.

When a woman becomes pregnant, she and her partner may have questions about what is happening to her body and how the baby is developing. During the pregnancy stages, first trimester, the process starts with the fertilization of the woman's egg and progresses to the point that the fetus is starting to resemble the baby it will become.

The entire pregnancy takes approximately 40 weeks. This period is divided into sections called trimesters, each of which is about 13 weeks long. In the pregnancy stages, first trimester, the woman's body has to adjust to the changes created by the pregnancy. Most of these changes don't occur immediately.

In the very first days of the pregnancy stages, first trimester, the fertilized egg, called a zygote, travels through the fallopian tubes and finally attaches itself to the wall of the uterus. There, the zygote becomes an embryo and the embryo starts the process of differentiation so that the individual cells become different parts of the body. During this time, the basics of the spinal column, the head, heart, digestive system begin to develop. Little nubs that will become the arms and legs also begin to grow. Facial features are not readily evident, though a rudimentary eye can be seen by the end of the first month. At this stage, the embryo is only about inch long.

During the second month of the pregnancy stages, first trimester, the embryo becomes a fetus. The organs of the fetus begin to work and it begins to produce its own hormones. These hormones, together with the hormones of the mother, can cause morning sickness to develop since the mother's body is not accustomed to the changes. Generally, it is after the fetal hormones begin to develop that the mother's menstrual periods stop. Even though all of these changes have taken place, the fetus is only about an inch long.

During the third month of the pregnancy stages, first trimester, the fetus completes the basic developmental processes. The mother's morning sickness will have stopped, and she will have started a noticeable weight gain. The fetus will have obvious arms and legs. Tiny little fingers and toes become evident. Teeth will begin to develop. The facial features are now distinct and the fetus would be recognizable as a human. The internal organs are much more advanced. The liver and the digestive systems will have begun working. The gender of the fetus has been established, though it may not be noticeable yet on ultrasound. At four inches long, the fetus is applying increased pressure on the bladder. It will apply pressure to the bladder and the woman will become aware of an increased need to urinate. This is natural and should not be a concern to the woman.

After you learn the good news from your doctor regarding your pregnancy, it is time to give serious consideration to the different stages of pregnancy. These are divided into three trimesters with the first beginning in the very first three months of pregnancy. During this stage there is significant loss of appetite, as well as nausea and a lot of fatigue. The next stage of pregnancy, the third and final trimester, occurs from the fourth month to the sixth month.

Consult A Doctor During The Third Trimester

The third and final trimester is the stage of pregnancy when your body begins to bloat, and is a time in which you will also feel a lot of discomfort. And, as the time of delivery approaches, you might experience pain in your lower back, breathlessness, lethargy and swollen feet. Furthermore, as the baby begins to kick about, there may also be pain as well as some amount of pressure as well. It would be advisable to visit your doctor for a check up that may include having ultrasound as well as other tests so that any abnormal symptoms discovered can be dealt with in a timely manner.

Finally Labor and Delivery

The next stage of pregnancy is that of labor and delivery, and is a time when the baby enters into the pelvic region of the abdomen. There will often be pain as well as contractions during this stage of your pregnancy. This is also a time when there will be many contractions that may cause you to call the doctor for advise, though it may be nothing more than what is known as Braxton Hicks contractions, or false contractions. It is in this manner that nature informs the pregnant woman that her delivery date is fast approaching.

The final stage of pregnancy is, of course, the actual delivery of the baby, which is when your water may break indicating that you are now in labor. This is when regular contractions begin to occur and their frequency increase until you feel the urge to push and the baby is born after having passed head first through the birth canal. In this manner, you will have given birth to the baby in a normal fashion, and a few minutes later the placenta will have left your body, and you will have brought your bundle of joy into a brand new world.

The history of ultrasound is based in the sonar that was used by the worlds navies during World War 2. After the war, researchers began experimenting with sonar to see if it could be helpful in medical diagnosis. It was first used to detect cancers and other growths that needed medical attention. It wasn't until the 1950s that the medical community recognized that sonar could be useful to take ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy.

Ultrasound is a series of very high frequency sound waves. These sound waves are of a frequency that can not be heard by humans, so they are not detected by the woman or the fetus. A tool called a transducer, which looks something like a stethoscope, is placed on a woman's abdomen. The sounds go through her skin and bounce back off whatever they contact inside the abdomen, producing an image that resembles a fuzzy black and white photograph. These images have become the now familiar ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy.

The use of ultrasound became increasingly prevalent in the 1960s. By then, scientists had discovered that, if the sound waves were in motion, the Doppler Effect would produce more accurate pictures. The Doppler Effect is familiar to most people when they hear a horn coming toward them and then moving away. Since sound is different if it is coming or going, the technique was used to produce more accurate pictures. The technique also allows ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy to detect motion of the fetus.

By accident, it was learned that the best ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy were produced when the techniques was used on women with full bladders. The use of ultrasound has become a common practice in obstetrics and women usually enjoy seeing the first "pictures" of their infants.

Ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy are most common in the second and third trimesters of the pregnancy. By that point, the fetus is usually large enough that it can easily be detected. During the next several weeks, depending on the position of the fetus, it may be possible for a woman to discover not only the gender of her child, but whether or not she is carrying more than one child.

This information, however, is not infallible, as the pictures can be misleading in the earlier weeks of the second trimester. As the fetus grows and its organs, arms, legs, fingers, toes and head become more recognizable, it is easier to detect the gender of the child or children. The ultrasound pictures of stages of pregnancy also allow practiced physicians to detect any possible problems in the fetus.

So, you are going to be a father! If you have been through the process before, you probably aren't searching for information. If you are looking for information on the stages of pregnancy and what to expect, then you probably recently heard the news for the first time and you want to know what to expect. There are a few things that will be somewhat "normal" about your partner's pregnancy, but keep in mind that each woman and each pregnancy is different. It might be a good thing to prepare for the unexpected.

What are some of the more "expected" issues? Much of the stages of pregnancy and what to expect depends on how far along the pregnancy is. In the first weeks of a pregnancy, very little will change for anyone. It is possible that the woman won't even know she is pregnant. Possibly, the woman might have felt some nausea that wouldn't go away, no matter what she did. If she goes to a doctor, she will discover that she is pregnant. The nausea is sometimes, though not always, a sign that the woman's body is adjusting to the changes inside her. Not all women get this nausea, usually called morning sickness, but some of them do. As the pregnancy develops, it will probably disappear.

The next of the stages of pregnancy and what to expect will probably occur when the woman starts to gain weight noticeably. She may start cleaning house and want you go get rid of some things you have had for years. If she didn't do this before the pregnancy, don't be surprised if she does it early in the pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy and what to expect, some woman go through a lot of house cleaning and rearranging. This has been called "nesting" and is simply the woman's way of clearing a space and preparing for the new addition to her family.

As she gets heavier, the stages of pregnancy and what to expect may have the woman wanting to stay close to a bathroom. As the fetus grows, it applies pressure to the bladder, giving a woman the feeling that she has to have a bathroom close. The woman may also have some cravings for foods that she never ate before the pregnancy. This is usually related to the fact that her hormones, combined with the hormones produced by the fetus, are giving her cravings, and emotions, she might not have experienced until she became pregnant. Be patient. These cravings and mood swings won't last forever.

The last of the major stages of pregnancy and what to expect will be toward the end of the pregnancy. The woman has gained a lot of weight, which is shifted to her front. The fetus will be pressing on her internal organs. She will be tired, because she might not be able to sleep comfortably. She will need to rest more than she did before she became pregnant. She may have less interest in sex than she did prior to the pregnancy. She may become cranky and argumentative. Don't take it personally. This, too, is generally short-lived. The fetus is heavy and she is tired. She is ready for the birth of the child, and the moment the two of you become parents.

Generally, people think of a fetus as being recognizable as a small human. During the first days of the pregnancy, the fetus does not technically exist. In those first days, the fetus is considered an embryo. An embryo has none of the visual characteristics associated with being human. It is only in week three stages of pregnancy that the fetus that begins to be recognizable as a potential baby. Even so, the fetus will hardly be noticeable at this stage. It is hardly recognizable as a human baby. At a length of only about 1/5 of an inch, the fetus doesn't cause obvious major changes in the appearance of the mother. Only major technology can even detect the fetus at this stage, but it is known that the fetus is beginning to develop as early as the third week.

It is during week three stages of pregnancy that a noticeable heartbeat develops. This can occur on or about the 25th day of the pregnancy. Obviously, the heart beat will not be heard by the pregnant woman, but new technology can distinguish a heartbeat this early in the fetal development.

The arms begin to develop within two or three days of the heartbeat. The fetus won't have recognizable arms, but it will develop the buds that will lengthen and segment into the components that will later become the arms.

Also in the week three stages of pregnancy, the buds that will become the legs develop. These buds also are not recognizable at first, but the little buds will develop on the fetus about two or three days after the development of the arm buds.

Toward the end of week three stages of pregnancy, the fetus gains the rudiments of a digestive system. The fetus at this stage gets its nourishment completely from the mother, but the digestive process needs time to develop and it is first noticeable at this point in the pregnancy.

Since the fetus starts developing recognizable characteristics during week three stages of pregnancy, it is important that the mother begin to take care of her health. If a woman was planning to become pregnant, she should have been eating a healthy diet and monitoring her in folic acid, protein, calcium and iron.

Folic acid has been found to be beneficial in the development of the components of the fetus that become the brain and spinal cord. Folic acid deficiencies can cause the fetus, and later the baby, problems later in life. Calcium is necessary for the development of the bones. Protein is necessary in the development of the tissues of the fetus. The mother needs healthy blood as she is contributing to the development of the fetus' blood supply. Any woman who has not been eating a healthy diet prior to the pregnancy should consult with her doctor as soon as she learns she is pregnant so she can learn how to eat well. A healthy diet contributes to a healthy baby.
