While eating a well balanced diet is always important, now more than ever you need to be mindful of proper nutrition. Your pregnancy means you are not just eating for yourself now. You must eat a well balanced diet in order to sustain the growing fetus inside you. What you eat has a great impact on their growth and development.

Eating a healthy pregnancy diet not only assists in having enough calories to sustain your growing baby, it also protects you and your growing baby from becoming sick. If you were eating a well-balanced diet before you became pregnant you probably won't have to change much during your pregnancy diet. However, there are a few foods women should be wary about. Pregnancy doesn't mix well with a few food items such as:

* Sodium -try to avoid excess salt whenever possible
*   Raw eggs
*   Raw seafood like sushi
*   Aspartame- the sugar substitute

Simply avoid these foods and you shouldn't have any problems.

Pregnancy is a joyous time. Learning to eat healthy shouldn't take up your time. Over the course of the first few months you can change your habits and then your newly acquired pregnancy diet will reflect good choices. The changes are easier to manage and by the time your belly begins to grow you are well on your way to a proper pregnancy diet filled with healthy choices.

This doesn't mean a boring diet. Not by a long shot. Eating your fruits and vegetables will help your hair grow long and give it a healthful shine. It also builds skin and bone in your growing baby.

Eating your 75grams of protein a day will help you feel stronger, less tired and help you conquer the nausea. It helps your growing baby develop a good immune system.

Here are some protein rich foods:
*   1  cups low-fat yogurt
* 3 ounces canned tuna (packed in water)
*    cup low-fat cottage cheese
* 3 ounces chicken or turkey

Drinking plenty of fluids is quite important during pregnancy, especially if it gets hot during the day. Remember that soda contains calories and coffee has caffeine so it is best for your healthy pregnancy diet to drink plenty of water. Most physicians recommend at least six to eight glasses of water per day. This rids your body or any extra toxins; helps you avoid early labor and will help your baby during delivery as well.

Committing to a healthy pregnancy diet takes commitment and in some cases will require lifestyle changes. Overall, you and your growing baby will benefit. Get help from family and friends. Stick with your new pregnancy diet plan clear through delivery and you will find yourself welcoming home a beautiful healthy boy or girl.

The truth is that even fertility itself is affected by nutrition. If you have been trying to conceive with no results, it is important that both the man and woman look at their diet.

As a family, the conception of a baby is an event that affects both the mother and the father. Often, the focus is primarily on the mother naturally. She is the one carrying the baby. But a pregnancy nutrition diet, health, mens food choices and the level of physical activity are all part of the big picture. The truth is that even fertility itself is affected by nutrition. If you have been trying to conceive with no results, it is important that both the man and woman look at their diet. A woman's conception chances can be improved with a vitamin filled pregnancy nutrition diet. Health, mens nutritional status and the increased production of sperm are also major factors increasing successful conception possibilities.

The Same Plan

To put it simply, the healthier a man's sperm is, the better his chances are he will conceive. Sperm health includes sperm counts and sperm motility. With a pregnancy nutrition diet, health, mens dietary needs and basic overall nutritional requirements are met. So a father-to-be can follow the same plan as the mother-to-be. The only adjustment that needs to be made is for the size and weight difference between men and women.

A pregnancy diet plan follows simple but essential recommendations for proper nutrition. It provides the right amount of vitamins and minerals. The same plan that aids in the development of a healthy baby and keeps the mother healthy at the same time, can also aid in the very conception of that same baby.

* Vitamin C, D and E contribute to healthy sperm production

* The mineral zinc can increase sperm production

* Balanced diet improves overall health

* Eating brightly colored vegetables can increase sperm motility

* Eating brightly colored fruit can also increase sperm motility

* Vitamin and mineral supplements can reverse problems created by environmental toxins

* Vitamin and mineral supplements fill nutritional voids left by prepackaged foods

Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants. Antioxidants can help prevent damage to sperm caused by age and nutritional shortages. The organs that are important for reproduction are easily damaged by environmental factors also. Increasing antioxidants can prevent those factors from preventing conception. The bottom line is that good nutrition plays a critical role in improving the chances for conception. A pregnancy nutrition diet, health, mens issues and the baby's development are the major concerns of a pregnancy.

A Healthy Family

There is not much that is more beautiful than a healthy baby. Nutritional health can play a major part in the days leading up to conception. Fertility is affected by stress, nutrition and physical problems. Stress and nutrition can be controlled to a large extent by our food choices. Planning for conception should include attention to pregnancy nutrition diet health. Mens health is just as critical to the procreation of the baby. Eating a balanced diet that provides all the essential nutritional requirements can one day mean the difference to having a baby to call your own.

Stay Fit While You're Pregnant, with a Pregnancy Fitness DVD!

So, you're pregnant, and committed to giving your baby the best of everything. You can start by staying fit and healthy exercising with a pregnancy fitness DVD! Everyone knows that healthy moms give their babies the best start in life by eating right, exercising, and getting good prenatal care. Do you know which exercises are best for you and your baby? If you don't, you are not alone. Most people have mixtures of old wife's tales, myths, and facts bouncing around in their heads, and are unsure which way to go. Is exercise good for mom and bad for the baby? It is bad for them both? Is it good for them both? It is time to take the guess work out of pregnancy, child birth, diet, and fitness. You have a responsibility to yourself and your child to find out the truth!

Researching online is a fast, easy way to get started. Once you have determined that the research does show both moms and their babies are healthier when mom exercises, and have gotten a green light from your obstetrician, you will be armed with all the information you need to make an intelligent decision on what will work best for you.

Pregnancy fitness DVDs are available online. If you have decided an at home fitness program is for you, but you still need motivation and direction, and a home fitness trainer is not an option, check out the available pregnancy fitness DVDs that are available! You will be surprised at the amount of DVDs there are available to help expectant mothers with their exercise programs. Since there are so many, research is important. The best way to determine if a particular pregnancy fitness DVD is right for you is to look at the reviews of each DVD. Other mothers who have used the DVD are great sources of information. Who could better advise you on the effectiveness of a particular pregnancy fitness DVD than someone who actually used it?

Once you have narrowed the choices down to a few, talk with your prenatal health care professionals. Take notes, or print out the pregnancy fitness DVD reviews that interest you, and take them with you when you go to your next appointment. Knowing what is available, talking with your obstetrician, midwife, or birthing instructor, and being armed with the knowledge your own research has provided are all the right steps toward getting the fitness program that will work best for you, and the added motivation of having to be healthy to help your baby be as healthy as possible makes pregnancy the best time to make lifestyle changes to last the rest of your life. Why not start now?

There is a lot of confusing information about how much pregnancy exercise one should be doing and what you should avoid. Recently people have become more aware that pregnancy exercise is good for you and there has become a high demand for classes such as yoga and aqua aerobics. Women normally gain at least two stone during pregnancy; your muscles and posture will be put under a lot of strain before you go through the exhausting process of childbirth.

During pregnancy it is important to exercise to help keep your spine straight before your back becomes affected by the extra weight, which occurs due to pregnancy. Aqua classes are formed around posture exercises and this pregnancy exercise can be practiced at home. Abdominal and pelvic floor exercises are also important to follow during your pregnancy. Building up your strength and endurance is important for labor, which is why it's a good idea to take pregnancy exercise classes. You only need to bring yourself and a bottle of water to classes, all the balls and mats are provided. Regular exercise can also reduce the risk of gestational diabetes as lack of exercise is seen as a common factor in sufferers of this condition.

Many aqua classes designed for pregnancy exercise are run by midwives or qualified instructors. It is important to get the go ahead from a health professional before starting exercising as you may have an underlying health problem that could be aggravated by exercise. It is also important to watch out for any warning signs, which could indicate that you are overdoing things such as dizziness or palpitations. Many women who partake in aqua aerobics may feel dizzy after leaving the pool but this is normal due to the difference in air temperature.

Exercises that are taught in pregnancy exercise classes can provide relief and make you feel more comfortable. They can help with common pregnancy problems such as sciatica and pubic symphesis. Some classes that are designed for back pain during pregnancy are taught by physiotherapists. If you have had a caesarian then it is more important to exercise afterwards and you will often be given an exercise sheet to follow after the operation.

After having your baby there are also aqua classes available to help tone up your upper and lower abdominal areas. These also cover your pelvic floor that can be affected easily by childbirth and this will help you get back into pre-pregnancy body shape. You can bring your baby to the classes with you and he/she can lie on beans. You will not be frowned upon if your baby cries during the classes as these are specifically for new moms.

Size Of The Baby Depends On The Amount Of Food Available

According to studies that have been conducted regarding weight gain during pregnancy, it has been found that the size of a baby depends to a large extent on the amount of food it is able to get from the uterus, and that if such food is deprived from the baby, it can result in death during infancy, or even result in a heart attack during their later years in life.

Being worried about weight gain during pregnancy is not reason enough to starve the uterus, which would only cause the blood to be shunted to the brain of the baby and not to other organs that could result in a baby being born with a small liver, pancreas or kidneys and other organs. Eating normal quantities of food is essential because most adults have high levels of hormones, which would cause the small livers to remove insulin following the eating of a meal, and thus raise insulin levels, which could result in a possible heart attack.

It is thus essential for the pregnant woman not to intentionally restrict the amount of calories during pregnancy. In addition, it is also necessary to select proper foods, which should be given higher priority than how much weight gain occurs during pregnancy. Your diet must also include whole grains, nuts as well as other seeds, beans and many different fruits and vegetables. Scientific studies confirm that weight gain during pregnancy is both essential as well as normal, and the pregnant woman need not worry unduly about how much weight she gains while she is pregnant.

Weight gain during pregnancy is something that depends on the weight of the developing embryo, which is in the womb inside the pregnant woman, and plays an essential part for the healthy of the mother. Also, it would be wrong for the pregnant woman to mistake weight gain during pregnancy for obesity, because gaining twenty-five to thirty-five pounds while in a pregnant state is absolutely normal. In fact, weight gain during pregnancy is vital for the pregnant mother so that she can support the growth of her baby as well as its development.

There's a lot that can be said about being fit, whatever the age. But to accomplish fitness while pregnant has superior health benefits for the new baby and mother alike. However, what are the elements of a fit pregnancy?

Diet and Nutrition

Regarding diet and nutrition, what constitutes a fit pregnancy is relative and ultimately up to the mother-to-be to decide. Pregnancy works on comfort zones and this includes comfort food too. Even though spouses, friends and in-laws will have their influence, pregnancy is a fit time to make positive dietary adjustments.

Everything should come under initial scrutiny – from monitoring weight and body fat to intake of fruits and vegetables – even what the cravings are. Sometimes there are indications of nutrient requirements; some even say that certain cravings have to do with the young soul in the womb.

Such concerns and much more are usually discussed with the OB/GYN early on in the pregnancy. A fit pregnancy looks at dietary intake vs. activity level. Recommended daily requirements vary with each pregnancy. For example, an active woman might need to increase iron rich foods while another less active woman might need lots of fiber rich veggies and easy to digest food.

Don't be surprised if cravings evolve from specific foods to whole food group preferences during pregnancy. A simple rule of thumb is to try to add something good to your diet every week.

Happy, Healthy and Wholesome

Of course there are numerous factors in achieving a happy fitness balance during pregnancy. A pregnancy fitness program includes movement with reasonable levels of strenuous exercise, lots of warm up and again a reasonable cool down time.

Yoga means union, so naturally a well-balance yoga regimen designed for pregnancy fitness could be really great. Do your research and ask the yoga instructor for references of actual moms who went through the program.

Oxygen

Blood oxygen levels are important to athletes, race horses – and babies. Keeping cardio fit during pregnancy is a great way to accomplish this. As the body works more efficiently, the baby gets both good amounts of oxygen and steady nutrient flow in the bloodstream which is a real bonus.

Fitness during pregnancy shows on the delivery day, the recovery days following and the good habits established will aid in the quick restoration of body tone and normal weight.

It is probably fine to continue your regular abdominal exercises during pregnancy until you begin to show, but once your baby bump begins to show, it is probably best to avoid the commonly known abdominal exercises during pregnancy, like sit-ups, crunches, and leg lifts, since the baby's weight while you are lying on your back can block the vena cava (the blood vessel that provides blood and oxygen to the uterus) and restrict the blood and oxygen flow to your uterus and the baby. You probably will not even want to continue these abdominal exercises during pregnancy, because scrunching up the abdomen could be uncomfortable.

Abdominal Exercises During Pregnancy Mean You Don't Have to Say Goodbye to a Flat Tummy Forever!

Abdominal muscle separation occasionally occurs during pregnancy and delivery. Postpartum moms should check their abdominal muscles for separation before starting any abdominal exercises during or pregnancy, or after giving birth, because the damage can be made worse by exercising, if there is separation. Test this by pressing your fingers into the area by your belly button as you attempt to do an abdominal crunch. If you can put more than one or two fingers in between the muscles, they have separated and you will need to modify your crunches. Place your feet the same way, but cross your arms across the abdomen and squeezing the muscles together as you exhale and contract the abdominal muscles, lifting only your head (not the shoulders). You may also use a length of material (such as old sheeting) wrapped around the abdomen and pulled across to achieve the same effect.

Strong abdominal muscles are beneficial to support the baby, ease the strain on back muscles, and are considered to help ease the labor and delivery, when you are giving birth. Adapting abdominal exercises during pregnancy also makes it less likely you will have abdominal muscular separation.

A popular midwife's suggestion is to learn belly dancing as an abdominal exercise during pregnancy. The exercise you get belly dancing helps keep your abdominal muscles in shape, and helps keep the muscles you use during labor and delivery in shape while making it easier to get your flat tummy back after the baby arrives!
Examples of safe abdominal exercises during pregnancy are:
Get on your forearms & knees, and exhale as you tighten the abdominal muscles, pulling the belly button in, toward the backbone, and inhale as you release them. You can work you oblique abdominal muscles by starting in a side-lying position with knees bent. At a 45-degree angle, exhale as you lift the rib cage toward the hip bone, squeezing in the waist line, inhale as you lower your rib cage back down. You should also combine these abdominal exercises with pelvic floor muscle, or Kegel exercises, in order to get the maximum benefit from them.

For expectant mothers pregnancy nutrition is key to having a healthy baby. Proper nutrition throughout the pregnancy ensures that the unborn baby is able to get all the nourishment needed to develop and grow to full size. This does not mean mothers-to-be have a carte blanche to eat everything in sight.

Mothers who had pre-pregnancy nutritional problems or were overweight should not consider dieting during their pregnancy. Every effort should be made to follow doctor's orders for proper weight gain. The actual figures vary however the average woman usually gains around twenty five to forty pounds during her pregnancy. There are essential nutrients every expectant mother should add to their daily intake.

Folic acid and iron are the most important vitamins needed for proper pregnancy nutrition. Expectant mothers should take 400 mg a day of Folic Acid, which helps prevent spina bifida and other brain damage from developing in the growing fetus. There are natural sources of folic acid in some foods, like leafy green vegetables, nuts, beans and some breakfast cereals. In addition, to prevent anemia it is a good idea for you while planning your pregnancy nutrition to keep iron-rich foods in mind such as:

*   Lean red meats
*   Fish
*   Chicken or turkey
*   Whole grain breads

Your baby also needs calcium to build strong bones. The U. S. Recommended Daily Allowance for Calcium for expectant mothers who wish to follow proper pregnancy nutrition guidelines is 1000 mg per day for pregnant and lactating mothers. In order to achieve this level you need to drink at least four glasses of milk. If you find you do not tolerate milk due to nausea or intolerance you could try eating yogurt or cheese, or even cottage cheese. Getting your calcium each day is very important.

During your pregnancy your eating habits might change. You may experience a short period of nausea in the beginning of your pregnancy. Some women never have morning sickness at all. Many women have cravings for unusual foods. Eating pickles with ice cream is generally okay once in a while, but keep in mind your overall pregnancy nutrition plan and know that everything you eat does have an impact on your health and that of your baby.

Naturally, you want to avoid:

*   Caffeine
*   Alcohol
*   Artificial sweeteners
*   High amounts of sodium
* Un-pasteurized milk products such as eggnog

Proper pregnancy nutrition will make a big difference in the birth weight and overall health of your newborn. Eating healthy foods starts your baby off on the right track.

As always, if you have any concerns you should always ask your doctor about any nutritional advice. They are there to guide you through your pregnancy and will gladly refer you to a registered dietician who can help you determine a plan that is just right for you.

When a pregnant woman discovers she has gestational diabetes, or a diabetic woman finds she is pregnant, the first concern is the diet will have to be nine months of uninspired prison fare. But a diabetes pregnancy diet can be just as fulfilling and varied as any other pregnancy diet. It is about managing nutrition for healthy results. But if you think about it carefully, there are many situations in life that require amended dietary menus. It may be post surgery, chronic disease or temporary illnesses that dictate diet. The diabetes pregnancy diet offers a lifestyle change promising good nutrition long after the baby is born.

Out Of Control

It is critical that diabetes be controlled with either diet or a combination of diet and insulin. Diabetes not monitored and controlled has serious consequences for the baby.

*  Heart defect

*  Spina Bifida

* Macrosomia or a baby weighing over 10 pounds

*  Breathing problems

*  Jaundice

* Defects in the digestive systems

Actually, almost any of the baby's developing systems can be affected by poorly managed diabetes during pregnancy. The diabetes pregnancy diet is developed to provide all the important nutrients to prevent developmental problems, while controlling blood sugar levels.

Under Control

Though the consequences of uncontrolled diabetes on an unborn baby can be severe, the good news is that a diabetes pregnancy diet can help. Diabetes is about controlling blood sugar levels by keeping them within normal range. A pregnancy diet balances nutrition by monitoring the kinds of calories consumed. Carbohydrate control is the first step. The body converts carbohydrates to sugar so the diabetes pregnancy diet takes this into consideration during menu planning. Other diabetes pregnancy diet requirements include the following.

* Increasing daily calorie intake by 300 calories due to baby's demands on the body
* Control of food cravings through healthy snacking

* Balance of vitamins and minerals including vitamins E, C, B6, B12, iron, zinc selenium, folate, niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin

* Frequent modification of diet throughout pregnancy

* Balance of diet based on the mother's weight, general health and baby's rate of growth

* Total daily caloric intake of approximately 2,000 per day

* Control of weight gain in proportion to baby's development

* Three meals and three snacks a day

*  No or few sweets

As with any diet, moderate amounts of exercise are important. It is crucial that a pregnant woman only undertake light exercise under the advice of a doctor. But exercise can help maintain sugar levels because the body uses carbohydrates for energy. Exercising during pregnancy, coupled with a diabetes pregnancy diet, can make the difference between a healthy baby and a baby born with birth defects. Being pregnant is the most important responsibility a woman will have in her lifetime. Take care of your baby before it is born and he or she will have a head start on a healthy childhood.

Many women wonder if they are able to exercise while they are pregnant, and as long as you don't have any serious medical problems or issues, and as long as you have been told by a medical professional that there will be no risk in your particular case to either you or the baby, then the answer is yes. In fact, it is highly recommended for the most part that women participate in pregnancy exercise during their entire pregnancy as much as they can, as there are many benefits that can be gained from it.

What is Pregnancy Exercise?

Pregnancy exercise can involve that of many different things, and basically you can do pretty much all of the exercises that you did before, only because you are pregnant and your body is obviously going through seriously dramatic changes, you will have to alter the exercises at least a little bit.

Pregnancy exercise is also incredibly helpful because it promotes that of muscle tone, strength, and endurance, which are three qualities that will obviously be incredibly resourceful in regards to helping you carry the weight of the growing baby for the nine months that he or she is inside of you.

Pregnancy exercise is also useful in the fact that it will help you to get back to your regular shape easier after the baby is born, which is considered as a major bonus for most mothers. As for what the best type of exercise is for pregnant women, there are many options. For one, walking is listed as being perhaps the most important and useful exercise, as it is an activity which works your major muscle groups, as well as strengthens your heart.

Swimming is another good option, as this will not only work out all of your body but can help you to relax as well, and there is an incredibly large selection besides this, such as: Pilates, yoga, jogging, weight-training, or running, for instance.

Remember that the most important thing of all is to make sure to consult your physician before involving yourself in any type of physical activity, especially when you are pregnant. As well, there are certain types of sports and other exercise that you should avoid when you are pregnant, primarily due to the unsafe factor that most of them come with.

For instance, cycling, horseback riding, skating and waterskiing are all sports that a pregnant woman should avoid in order to keep as safe as possible both herself and the baby.

Pregnancy, Fitness, and Diet: The Perfect Time for New Beginnings!

Pregnant women are sort of like common property; an eminent domain of the most personal kind. Suddenly strangers tell you the most personal stories of their own experiences with child birth, and offer advice on pregnancy, fitness, and diet. They assume the right to touch your belly, and offer you tidbits of advice, handed out like cookies that are a little bit burned on the edges, cookies you are not sure are safe to eat.

One moment you laugh. The next moment, you cry. One moment you are so sick you think you could never touch food again, the next you suddenly love some food you have hated all your life. Pregnancy is not a disease, it is not a bad thing, and there is nothing wrong with it. It is one of the most natural things in the world. Perhaps the most difficult part of pregnancy is sifting through all those pieces of gravel to get to the gold.

Pregnancy, fitness, and diet, are not the kind of things you want to leave to chance. Pregnancy may be natural, but naturally, there are things you can do to make it better, easier, and less complicated. Since you are making decisions for two people now, you should do your home work, and make sure you are doing things right! Pregnancy, fitness, and diet are separate branches of the same tree, and now that you are pregnant, it is a great time to make healthy decisions and changes, not just for the duration of your pregnancy, but for life. Your responsibility to live a healthy lifestyle does not end when you give birth. While you are, you can make changes that will teach good, healthy fitness and diet habits to your child, as well as providing the best start possible for pregnancy, fitness, and diet.

Online research is a great place to begin learning about your pregnancy, fitness and diet. Research abounds extolling the benefits to both mother and child. Dietary considerations such as adding folic acid, calcium, and iron should actually begin before getting pregnant, to give your baby the best possible beginning in life. Once you are pregnant, prenatal vitamins are a good start. Add to that:

* 6 to 11 servings of grain products
* 3 to 5 servings of vegetables
* 2 to 4 servings of fruits
* 4 to 6 servings of milk and milk products
* 3 to 4 servings of meat and protein foods
* 6 to 8 glasses of water, fruit juice, or milk

Limit fatty foods and sweets. Simple choices like drinking milk or juice instead of regular or diet soda, and eating fortified foods like bread and cereal, make a lot of difference.

Research fitness plans, and decide with your prenatal health care team what they recommend and if there are any special health concerns or restrictions in regards to your pregnancy, fitness, or diet. There is no time like the present to start, and the best place to start is right at your fingertips.

Once a woman finds out she is pregnant, one of her first concerns will be how to get the proper nutrition during pregnancy. The requirements of proper eating change somewhat when one begins to eat for two. Fortunately there are some basic principles that a woman can follow to make sure that she and her unborn baby get all of the pregnancy nutrition needed to keep both healthy.

The first important principle to know is that eating for two does not necessarily mean eating twice as much for nine months. The reality is that for proper pregnancy nutrition, an expectant mother only needs to consume an extra 300 calories per day. Instead of doubling up on meals, it is sufficient to add a healthy extra snack or two to a typical diet. The advantage to light, frequent snacking is also to help regulate blood sugar as well as alleviating the nausea of morning sickness.

In order to fulfill the nutrition requirements during pregnancy, a woman should try to eat at least nine servings of grains, and at least half of those servings should come from whole grain products. Her diet should also include a minimum of seven fruits and vegetables, three helpings of milk or milk products, and three protein servings. With the inclusion of six-eight glasses of water each day to help with hydration, pregnancy nutrition is met satisfactorily.

Getting Proper Pregnancy Nutrition on the Run

There are a number of choices a woman can make for quick foods when she is too busy to cook. Individual fruit bowls are available and are easy to transport. Raisins or baby carrots can be a fast and healthy snack, and yogurt and string cheese are a speedy alternative to one of the daily milk servings. If it becomes necessary to stop by a fast food restaurant for lunch, try to choose an establishment that offers a complete salad bar.

Finally, don't forget a daily dose of prenatal vitamins. Even the most conscientious about pregnancy nutrition may have trouble meeting the requirements for iron and calcium when those requirement increase to support the unborn child. Folic acid is a vital element for preventing some birth defects, and should actually be increased prior to conception if at all possible.

Pregnancy nutrition deserves special attention during this special time of life, but it is not a mystery that has no solution. A good nutrition plan can increase the odds of having a healthy baby, and can help a woman feel better during those nine months of carrying her child.

When you are pregnant, nutrition is the key to giving your unborn baby a chance at a healthy childhood and fewer adult health problems. Good nutrition can determine quality of life, both inside and outside the womb. The mayo pregnancy diet concentrates on basic good nutrition to avoid many of the possible pregnancy problems that can occur.

*  Miscarriage

* Afterbirth breaking loose before labor

*  Toxemia

*  Dehydration

*  Birth defects

The food pyramid is a diet guideline that emphasizes balanced nutrition. What is good for the mother is good for the baby. Foods you should eat the most of are at the bottom of the pyramid, while less critical nutrition foods make up the smallest section. The goal of the pyramid is to provide all the nutrients needed for mother and baby's strong bones, healthy heart and weight control. The mayo pregnancy diet emphasizes good health through proper nutrition.

Building Baby

Like the food pyramid, babies are built one step at a time. Healthy cell division makes for a healthy baby. There are foods that offer the optimal nutritional benefit and they are included in the food pyramid. The pyramid includes food choices to get adequate carbohydrates, proteins, fats, oils and dairy products. But is the mix of these important food groups that makes good nutrition.

With the mayo pregnancy diet, you start with basic dietary nutrition for mother and baby's health.

* Eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods

* Limit the amount of trans fat

*  Avoid cholesterol producing foods

* Use calorie counting to control weight

* Eat regularly to maintain blood sugar levels

* Do not use alcohol while pregnant

But how do you know which foods to choose. The mayo pregnancy diet will guide you through food selections. During much of the pregnancy, it is important to add enough calories to provide adequate nutrition to the baby. The usual caloric increase is a recommended 300 calories. But these calories should be nutritional.

* Beans which are high in vitamins and minerals

*  Lean cuts of beef

* Fruits and berries which contain crucial folate and Vitamin C

* Lower fat cheese which contains calcium

* Eggs fortified with omega-3 fatty acids

* Low fat milk fortified with Vitamin D

* Low fat yogurt for zinc and B vitamins

The mayo pregnancy diet should only be undertaken after consultation with your doctor. But there is no reason to be bored with your diet while pregnant. Controlling weight while providing critical nutrients to your baby is not difficult. There are hundreds of recipes online that can assist you with creating delicious meals using those foods you should be eating. The mayo pregnancy diet is for those mothers who want to insure their baby develops normally with less risk of birth defects. And isn't that what every mother-to-be has as her goal?

It's hard to know what is the best way to eat while pregnant. Everywhere you turn there are conflicting opinions. People giving advice are just trying to be nice, because they care about you and your unborn baby. But in the end, all you want to know is what is a proper nutritional diet while pregnant. After weighing the pros and cons, the conclusion is that a good pregnancy diet menu is the same menu you could use for a healthy lifestyle even after the baby is born. The doctors are right! If you eat healthy, your baby starts life healthy.

Balancing The Scales

When you are considering a good pregnancy diet menu, picture the old fashioned scale that has a flat plate on each side. If you eat too many carbohydrates, the scale tilts one way. If you overeat fatty meats, the scale tips the other way. Your goal is to balance the scale so that the correct amount of nutrition is ingested everyday. The best way to do this is to follow a menu that has the right amount of vitamins and minerals built into it. A pregnant woman needs:

* Calcium so the baby grows with healthy bones

* Iron so the necessary amount of oxygen is carried to the baby

* Folic acid to help prevent spine or brain birth defects

*  Vitamin D for the baby's growth

A good pregnancy diet menu that incorporates fortified foods and supplements will assist in the healthy development of your baby.
But it is hard to change old habits. If your food menu has included fast food, desserts and lots of fat, it is not easy to suddenly switch to only healthy foods. It takes determination and reliance on the love you have for your unborn baby.

Fighting The Good Fight

It is so easy to be tempted to snack throughout the day. That is the simplest way to put on weight and deny you and your baby a healthy diet. A handful of chips here and there, a quarter pound hamburger or the candy every few days add up calorie-wise quickly. There are ways to resist. Following are some helpful hints so you can adhere to a good pregnancy diet menu.

* Eat fresh foods as opposed to processed food whenever possible

* Eat whole grain breads like wheat bread, instead of white bread

* Drink water which is good for you and the baby and also makes you feel full

* Instead of eating fatty mean, get your dietary fat requirements through nuts

* Substitute whenever possible, such as low fat milk for whole milk and colorful fruits for sweets

* Don't use salt or very little of it because sodium increases blood pressure

* Broil your food instead of frying

These are just a few suggestions for a good pregnancy diet menu. Once your baby is born, you would not hesitate to do whatever is needed to keep your baby safe and healthy. You can start the good fight for your baby's health before it is even born. Following a good pregnancy diet is the way to start.

In today's terminology, a significant other means someone who has a very special relationship with you. Who could be more significant than the baby developing inside your womb? You and your baby have a unique relationship. Your body is the incubator for another human being, and this new human being in the making needs to be nourished. Pregnancy nutrition and diet is a plan for providing the nourishment you both need.

Grand Entrance

At every stage of our life, there are recommended nutritional requirements. When we are very young, we need lots of calcium for growing bones. When we are middle-aged, we need more iron. During pregnancy, it is important to eat specific foods that nourish you and your baby. When your baby makes his or her entrance, you want it to be grand. This means having a healthy baby by following a pregnancy nutrition and diet plan.

* Take a daily multivitamin that provides 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vitamins and minerals

* Get 30 mg of iron daily

* Get 400 micrograms of folic acid daily

*  Eat a balanced diet

The truth is that a pregnant woman should eat sensibly, as she should even if she were not pregnant. If you live a healthy lifestyle all along, getting pregnant just means you should add vitamins and supplements to aid the baby's proper development. A good pregnancy nutrition and diet plan will:

*  Insure proper brain development

* Insure proper nervous system development

* Reduce the chance of birth defects

* Create a strong immune system

If you baby gets the proper nutrition before birth, the chances are greatly increased that he or she will be born healthy. Following a pregnancy nutrition and diet plan that focuses on prenatal health gives your baby a head start on a healthy childhood. It is well known that the health condition a baby is at birth can possibly affect the child's health the rest of his or her life.

Theatrical Production

There is nothing more dramatic in life than giving birth. But the drama of birth pales in comparison to the drama of an unhealthy infant struggling to overcome deficiencies created by poor prenatal diet. It is important to understand that what you eat is more important than how much you eat. The old saying that you are "eating for two" does not mean you should eat twice as much. It means you should adjust your diet to accommodate you and your baby's nutritional needs. A pregnancy nutrition and diet plan will include healthy meals and snacks that you can eat throughout the day.

* Increase fruits and vegetables to 7 servings a day

* Eat only moderate amounts of fat

*  Eat whole grain foods

*  Eat protein in moderation

In the end, the recommendations are just common sense for anyone who wants to eat a healthy, balanced diet. So make sure your baby is the star of the show – follow a doctor recommended pregnancy nutrition and diet plan.

Diet and fitness during pregnancy are very important things to consider when you are pregnant. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will reduce the chances of suffering from any pregnancy medical conditions and will make it easier to cope with the stresses of birth. Your baby will also reap the benefits from maintaining a good diet and fitness during pregnancy.

Always check with your doctor before commencing a fitness programme or changing your diet. Try to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to gain plenty of essential nutrients. You should drink lots of water, as it is easy to become dehydrated during pregnancy. There is plenty of information available from your health practitioner about diet and fitness during pregnancy. Exercising can improve your mental health and losing all those pregnancy pounds after labor. Women who follow a good diet and fitness during pregnancy have reduced weight gain, feel better emotionally, their sleep improves and most experience a more rapid weight loss after pregnancy particularly if they continue their healthy eating and exercise programme post pregnancy. Try to wear a good fitting bra and comfortable trainers while exercising.

Good forms of exercise when choosing a diet and fitness during pregnancy, are swimming, aqua aerobics, yoga, Pilates and walking. Walking is one of the most popular forms of exercise for pregnant ladies, you can adjust how far you choose to walk and you can vary the ascent, as you get fitter. You will also be getting plenty of fresh air, which will help you, sleep. Aqua aerobics classes are available for pregnant ladies and are run by professional instructors or midwives. Pilate classes are ideal to help with breathing exercises and to help improve your posture. Yoga will help you become suppler and helps get the muscles working ready for childbirth.

It can be really hard to maintain good healthy levels of diet and fitness during pregnancy because of the foods that make you feel sick or the all too common pregnancy cravings. Try to remember that you are making a baby and that you want it to be healthy. You only need an extra 300 calories when you are pregnant and you should try to eat plenty of protein and take prenatal vitamins. Following a good diet and fitness during pregnancy will also help reduce the chance of miscarriage. You should include diary products which are essential to help build up your calcium levels, plenty of red meat and fish, or if you are vegetarian plenty of beans and lentils. Also try to include bread and grains into your diet. Another important supplement that you will be advised to take is folic acid.

If you are looking for a gentle and safe way to stretch and stay in shape while carrying some extra weight during pregnancy, welcome to yoga and pregnancy 101. This isn't a real college class but I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of yoga classes targeting pregnancy being taught these days.

What is Yoga?

Yoga as is taught in western society is a mix of general exercise principles and awareness of self, body and breathing in relation to the larger world around us. This is sort of the opposite of true yoga, which starts with a premise that all is one and we are parts of that whole going through varied experiences.

Yoga literally means union or yoking – making two come to know they are one. In a way, this defines pregnancy also. The relationship between mother and child is both natural and quite often unshakable. In this light, what better exercise than to explore that oneness in a healthful pregnancy yoga environment.

Natural and Healthful

We can hardly recall a time in our busy lives when we look within and come in touch with our inner self – and that too in a class environment! Who is qualified to teach such a personal exploration into self and what impact does it have on the baby? These are good questions and often the kind that percolate up to the surface during the exploration of yoga in pregnancy.

To safeguard your personal wellbeing and that of the baby, it is suggested, even recommended that you do your research before venturing into the yoga arena. In India, where yoga was born, it is said that there are more yoga teachers than students. This is not said to scare those wanting to explore yoga; rather, it is a reminder to check out the teacher before signing on.

Yoga done properly is a natural and healthful exercise giving benefits to the body, mind and in the case of pregnancy, yoga has been said to help the unborn baby too. Spiritual aspects are prevalent too but this is a very personal area and no other person stands in one's shoes. Ask for references and once satisfied, go for it.

After Birthing Schedule

After child birth, the regimen established during pregnancy plays a vital role in recovery of normal body weight, toning and general strength. The great value of yoga done while pregnant will show itself during and after your child is born. As the hectic schedule of motherhood unfolds, a moment of quietude and remembrance will bring a smile to your face in the midst of dirty diapers and sleepless nights!

It is vitally important that you maintain a healthy pregnancy diet throughout the entire course of your pregnancy. Not only for your health, but for your unborn child's health as well. It has been proven that women who maintain a healthy diet during their pregnancies average lower weight gain than women who do not, and also are able to lose the weight after delivery much faster.

A healthy pregnancy diet consists of the proper balance of proteins, fruits and vegetables, calcium, and carbohydrates. Be sure also, that you keep yourself properly hydrated during your pregnancy, drinking lots of water and 100% juices. While maintaining a healthy balance in your diet is very important, it is also important to remember that there are a number of foods that you should avoid during your pregnancy as well.

Foods To Avoid

While there are foods that you should simply try to avoid while you are pregnant, there are a few foods that should be eliminated completely from your pregnancy diet. Any unpasteurized juices or milk products, like ciders and soft cheeses, need to be eliminated completely from your pregnancy diet. These foods can contain a dangerous and difficult to detect disease called listeriosis.

While eating fish is an extremely healthy part of any diet, you need to avoid certain fish such as shellfish and some freshwater fish caught non-commercially, which can contain very dangerous bacterium. You should also avoid fish like shark, mackerel, and swordfish, due to the fact that they contain higher levels of mercury which has been shown to cause harm to the fetus. You should also exclude most tropical fish from your pregnancy diet. And sushi is strictly forbidden.

Healthy Foods To Include In Your Pregnancy Diet

A healthy balance is easy to maintain in your pregnancy diet. A typical diet should include at least seven servings of fruits and vegetables each day; two to three servings of lean proteins; two or three servings of whole grains (I found whole grain bread to be quite delicious for those who may balk at this suggestion); three or four servings of calcium, such as cheese, low fat milk, or yogurt; and plenty of water.

While many choose to adopt a vegan, or vegetarian, pregnancy diet, it is important to remember to take additional supplements to ensure that you are getting the proper nutrients that your unborn child will need. Use common sense, and avoid things like junk food and soda, and you will find that it is extremely easy to maintain a healthy pregnancy diet.

A healthy pregnancy is normal. A healthy woman can usually enjoy a healthy pregnancy. A healthy pregnancy also refers to the health of the developing fetus. there are many things a woman can do and not do to increase the chances for a healthy pregnancy. The first thing a woman should do is think about her health before she conceives a child. Excellent diet, good, regular exercise, minimal stress, abstinence from certain substances like cigarettes, recreational drugs and alcohol, and certain supplements in order to be proactive against various birth defects.

Every woman, and every person in fact should concern themselves with being healthy, but it is of particular importance for a woman considering pregnancy to pay attention to aspects of her health so she can have a healthy pregnancy. Every day, there are new discoveries about birth defect prevention. But it is well established now that sufficient folic acid is important for a healthy pregnancy outcome. There has been evidence that low levels of folic acid can contribute to certain neural tube defects. Folic acid for a healthy pregnancy is something that is proven to be good for women to get enough of, beginning, preferably before conception.

A healthy diet is important for everyone, but it is extra important for a healthy pregnancy. Plenty of the right balance of healthy foods contributes to healthy growth of the baby during pregnancy. It is not necessary for a woman to overeat to achieve a healthy pregnancy. On the contrary, only about 350 additional calories per day of the right foods, along with certain supplements creates the right diet for a healthy pregnancy for most women. Of course, it is essential to check with your health care provider to be sure that you don't have any special circumstances that require a special diet in order for you to have a healthy pregnancy.

Exercise is also an important aspect to a healthy exercise. If you health care provider gives you the go ahead to continue any regular exercise program you are used to, then, by all means, go ahead and continue. But be careful to get clearance for any new types of exercise during pregnancy from your health care provider before starting one. There are many classes in prenatal yoga which, with proper instruction might be the perfect exercise for you so you can maintain a healthy pregnancy. Prenatal yoga will help condition your mind and body for a healthy birth as well.

Lastly, stay away from certain things while you are pregnant so you can enjoy a healthy pregnancy, birth and baby…smoking, (first or second hand smoke) Smoking will most certainly interfere with a healthy pregnancy. Smoking is known to lead to premature births and low birth weights in babies so we know that smoking is not only unhealthy for mother, but unhealthy for unborn babies as well. Drugs and alcohol are also substances to be avoided if you want a healthy pregnancy. There are many negative side effects to mother and baby when exposed to these substances. And get adequate rest and try to remain as stress free as possible so you can allow your body to experience a healthy pregnancy.

Living a healthy lifestyle and being fit will help your chances of conceiving if you are trying to get pregnant and will also help with the trauma during pregnancy. Fitness is important so that you cope with the extra weight and strain of pregnancy let alone the birth experience. Researchers in the field of pregnancy fitness used to think that being fit would reduce chances of concept but now being fit is better for your health and well being during pregnancy. Keeping fit also reduces the chance of miscarriage but if you have had more than one miscarriage you should consult your doctor before commencing pregnancy fitness programmes.

Pregnant women are at risk of similar injuries to what athletes develop such as muscle injuries as well as back problems like sciatica. Exercises for your posture are ideal to help reduce backache during pregnancy. Fitness regimes that help work your abdominal muscles are also worth following as these will help flatten your tummy after childbirth. Pelvic floor exercises are extremely important as pregnancy puts pressure on these muscles and can cause incontinence or prolapses. Pelvic floor exercises are extremely easy to do, you can practice them at any time of day and no one will know that you are doing them.
Before commencing any type of pregnancy fitness programme you should consult your health practitioner first. While exercising you should take notice of your body to watch for any warning signs that indicate that you are overdoing things. When exercising wear a supportive bra that fits correctly such as a sports bra and also wear supportive trainers. Always take a bottle of water as your body temperature rises during pregnancy. Fitness experts feel that pregnant women should avoid hot stuffy workout areas, as you are more at risk of feeling dizzy or sick.

Avoid any sports that involve jumping or where you could jar yourself. Keep everything low impact and take things slowly. Avoid sports such as horse riding or tennis where you may fall or get hit in the tummy. Exercising during your pregnancy helps your blood pressure stabilize and improves your state of mind. Your blood circulation will improve which can help reduce the chances of developing the all too common piles and varicose veins.

Women who exercise around three to five times a week are more likely to have babies that are born heavier, longer and have a better overall weight and body fat than those born to mums who don't exercise at all. Babies who are born to more active mothers are likely to be less fussy and more alert which indicates that pregnancy fitness may have caused the babies to have a development boost.

There are plenty of ways in which you can exercise for free. Pregnancy exercise videos are one such way. All exercise videos are presented by trained instructors who follow gynaecological guidelines. You should always consult your healthcare provider before starting any form of exercise just in case you have any underlying medical conditions that could be aggravated by carrying out exercise.

You can quite often find free pregnancy exercise videos on the front cover of mother and baby magazines. These may contain general pregnancy exercise routines, Pilates exercises, yoga movements or aqua aerobics workouts. Free pregnancy exercise videos can be found also in your local library and possibly your local antenatal group. You may be able to arrange to join a small group of local moms who exercise together.

There are many sites on the Internet where you can download free pregnancy exercise videos. Always be sure to check for viruses when downloading. For busy working moms these free pregnancy exercise videos are ideal if you do not have time to attend a local antenatal fitness class. You can also carry on exercising post pregnancy to help get back into your pre-pregnancy shape.

Pilates is a wonderful way to improve your posture and strengthen your tummy muscles. It sis recommend to have already been following a Pilates before conceiving. Yoga is an excellent form of relaxation and meditation. You can become very supple by following yoga exercise routines, which will help with the labor process. Trained instructors or midwives often hold aqua aerobics classes. These classes are designed for expecting moms but you can obtain free pregnancy exercise videos, which show the exercises.

By following free pregnancy, exercise videos you will find it easier to give birth because your muscles will strengthen and you will have more stamina to cope with the strains of labor. If you exercise frequently then you will notice that your posture will improve, your posture is affected by the extra weight that put on during pregnancy and your hormones affect your hormones overall. Try exercises that will improve your tummy and leg muscles, as these will help you during labor. Women who exercise during their pregnancy are more likely to have healthier heavier and longer babies that more developed than babies born to mothers who do not exercise.

Keep Moving, Mom! Exercise During Pregnancy Guidelines

Research has shown a dramatic correlation between the health of pregnant women, new mothers, and babies, and following exercise during pregnancy guidelines to understand and implement the best ways to continue to remain active and in optimal physical condition during pregnancy. According to exercise during pregnancy guidelines, any low-impact aerobic exercise that does not involve contact sports, cause joint or muscle stress, require balance for safety, present falling hazards, or are against the advice of your physician, will benefit the health of both the mother and baby.

It is easy to research exercise during pregnancy guidelines. Many expectant mothers are bombarded by old wives tales, and "helpful advice." The problem is the advice is often contradictory, and difficult to sift through. What is helpful and what is harmful, or what is not helpful but harmless, is often almost impossible to ascertain. The health of yourself and your baby is too important to leave to guess work. It is important to understand and be able to follow the exercise during pregnancy guidelines that will actually help you and your new baby to maintain good health during pregnancy, facilitate easier labor and delivery, and maintain good postnatal health.

Whether it is a sport you love, a fitness center, exercise videos, dancing, aerobics or a multitude of other activities from walking to marathon running, most people have some type of fitness activity in their lives. It is important to begin a fitness routine before you are pregnant, and make necessary adaptations to it to make it fit beneficial exercise during pregnancy guidelines, to improve the health of yourself and your child by reducing hypertension, preeclampsia, maternal weight gain, gestational diabetes, difficult labor and delivery, babies with low birth weight.

There are a few activities that are unwise during pregnancy, and exercise limits and recommendations change before, during, and after pregnancy.

Good forms of exercise, like walking, stationary cycling, low-impact aerobics, and swimming or water exercise have proven to be beneficial. Discouraged exercises include sports that increase abdominal trauma risk, such as hockey, boxing, wrestling, football, soccer, or other high risk sports like gymnastics, horseback riding, skating, skiing, racquet sports, weight lifting and other similar activities, and any exertion that raises body temperature above 102-103 degrees, or puts undue stress on muscles and joints should be avoided.

When considering exercise during pregnancy guidelines, use common sense, research online, and consult your obstetrician for final approval, because certain conditions are prohibitive of exercise during pregnancy, but most pregnant women feel better, look better, and have easier pregnancies and deliveries, in addition to reducing postpartum complications for both mother and baby, when they choose implement exercise routines following exercise during pregnancy guidelines.

Researches about exercise and pregnancy struggle with the pros and cons of exercise during pregnancy. For many years, physicians suggested moderate activity levels for pregnant women, and then made a drastic flip, stating that pregnant women should continue with their activities, or give up sedentary lifestyles in favor of regular physical exercise, stating that it would facilitate an easy labor and delivery. It seems, according to current researches about exercise during pregnancy, in some ways, both were right.

The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development provided $150,000 in grant money to fund a research project designed to determine the accuracy of existing methods of measuring energy expenditure in pregnant women. According to exercise physiologist, James Pivarnik, though there have been improvements in ability to measure, or estimate, energy expenditure in field settings, most of the research has been done on people who were not pregnant, so there is still much to be learned in researches about exercise during pregnancy. Dr. Pivarnik postulates that this research will go a long way in determining the role of physical activity and energy expenditure's effects on pregnancy.

According to Dr. Carole B. Rudra from the University of Washington, who spearheaded recent researches about exercise during pregnancy, provided more evidence that engaging in regular physical activity both before and during pregnancy, reduces the risk for gestational diabetes, which threatens the health of both mother and baby, and directly correlates to the risk of the mother developing diabetes later in life.

Women in the study, who reported very strenuous exertion on a regular basis, were 81% less likely to develop gestational diabetes compared with women reporting negligible or minimal exertion. Women reporting moderate usual exertion had a 59% risk reduction compared with women reporting negligible or weak exertion.

Researches about exercise during pregnancy conducted by Dr. Richard Feely, M.D. support the positive benefits of exercise during pregnancy, noting that it may lower the risk of high blood pressure or preeclampsia during pregnancy.

Two hundred and one women with preeclampsia during pregnancy, and three hundred and eighty-three women who didn't have high blood pressure during pregnancy, took part in the study. The women reported their level of recreational activity, walking, and stair climbing for the periods prior to conception and for the first twenty weeks of pregnancy.

The risk of high blood pressure during pregnancy was reduced by about 33% in women who engaged in recreational and physical activities during the year before pregnancy and during early pregnancy. Those women who did not regularly exercise, but climbed stairs every day, also had a lower risk but to a lesser extent.

A recent study at Case Western Reserve University found a direct correlation in maternal health and exercise during pregnancy, but also noted a definitive correlation in the health of the babies of mothers who did or did not exercise as well. In summary, researches about exercise and pregnancy support the belief that expectant mothers should continue suitable forms of exercise throughout pregnancy, provided there are no prohibitive medical conditions to prevent it.

As soon as that little test stick yields a plus sign, a woman must begin to consider her options regarding her pregnancy diet. It is often hard to find any foods that sound appetizing during the first few weeks of pregnancy when morning sickness can run rampant over an expectant mother's life. When the nausea settles down however, the diet becomes an important element in the health of the unborn baby.

What You Should Not Include in your Pregnancy Diet

Besides avoiding alcohol, caffeine and excessive sugar intake, there are some foods that you might be surprised to be told to avoid during your pregnancy. Raw fish such as sushi can be dangerous to an unborn baby because it can be a possible source of bacteria. Soft cheeses such as Brie, pate, and undercooked meat and poultry can also harbor bacteria. Eggs are another food that should not be consumed by expectant mothers unless they are fully cooked.

Since a proper pregnancy diet only needs to include an additional 300 calories per day, you do not need to increase your food consumption by as much as you might think. Adding a couple of vitamin-packed snacks will provide you with enough additional nutrition, and may help you ward off the waves of nausea that can generally attack during the first trimester. Forget the old adage of "eating for two" and be mindful of how much food you really need to fill your plate with.

What Your Pregnancy Diet should include

While serving sizes do not change during pregnancy, it is a good idea to become even more conscientious during this time of getting enough servings of the appropriate food groups. A good pregnancy diet should include at least nine servings of grains, seven fruits and vegetables, three milk products and three protein servings. You should also make sure you are drinking six to eight glasses of water every day, since hydration during pregnancy is important.

There are many options to choose from when it comes to quick snacks on the go. You can find individual serving containers of fruits, boxes of raisins, yogurt containers in a huge variety of sizes and flavors, precut vegetables for dipping, and packages of string cheese. A glass of soy milk can make a nutritious and satisfying snack as well. A good pregnancy diet doesn't have to give up nutrition in favor of convenience!

Pregnancy diet does not have to be a complicated process, but with a little planning and information, you can ensure that your baby has his healthiest start by the foods you choose to eatuj. Choose wisely, and you will both be on your way to a more nutritious life.

Exercise during pregnancy is very beneficial for you and your baby. The wrong kind of exercise can do more harm than good so choose pregnancy exercise videos that are specifically designed for pregnancy. All pregnancy exercise videos the videos are designed with safe and effective exercises to keep you fit while you're expecting. They range from yoga to massage to workouts and contain everything you need to keep you and your baby fit and healthy during your pregnancy. Your baby is more likely to have a higher birth weight and be longer in length if you exercise regularly. You will also find easier to lose all your added pregnancy weight and get your toned tummy back if you continue your pregnancy fitness programme after having your baby.

There is a number of workout videos available ranging from actual pregnancy exercise videos to videos for exercising back to pre-pregnancy shape after you have had baby. You can choose from a wide range of videos such as aerobics, Pilates or yoga. These will help your energy levels even thought you may not feel like exercising and will improve your posture, circulation, stamina and help you through the birth process.

Pregnancy exercise videos are ideal to help you recover after caesarean sections and exercises to help you cope with the physical changes of pregnancy by developing safe posture and movement. Most women generally gain around 2lbs during pregnancy and are easily susceptible to back ache, by following pregnancy exercise videos your muscles will strengthen and your posture improved so your backache will ease.

All pregnancy exercise videos start with gradual exercises and then as you become fitter you can choose more intense exercises. It is important to check with your healthcare provider before starting any form of pregnancy exercise as you may suffer from a condition that may be aggravated through exercise. Exercising during pregnancy is encouraged to help you prepare for the birth and studies have shown that babies who are born to fit mothers are more developed than mothers who do not follow a fitness programme.

Yoga pregnancy exercise videos are designed with each trimester in mind with different postures designed to help you prepare for the birth experience. Yoga helps you build your strength and flexibility all essential for labor. You will develop a supple body and feel completely relaxed.

Pilate's pregnancy exercise videos often include useful breathing exercises to help you prepare your body and mind ready to meet your new baby. Ideally, you should start Pilate's exercises prior to conceiving, but you can start during pregnancy if you are properly supervised at the beginning.

When you think about the relationships in your life, compatibility is a major issue. When you don't have similar interests or goals, there is no basis for a healthy relationship. Diet and your bodily systems operate on the same principles. Your circulatory system is a life giving system, and each person's is unique to them. It is important to take this fact into consideration when you become pregnant. Your blood type and pregnancy diet can affect your health in many ways. Blood type and diet should be compatible. They should have the same goal of working together to create efficient bodily functions.

Nice To Meet You

Blood type is a measure of the presence or absence of antigens in the blood stream. Lectins are protein like substances found in food that interact with certain molecules in cells in our body. How they react is the key to a healthy immune system and the avoidance of multiple digestive problems. Digestive problems are a major complaint during pregnancy. Making sure your blood type and pregnancy diet meet and agree can reduce many common problems. Common problems during pregnancy include:

*  Indigestion and heartburn

*  Joint inflammations

*  Increased stress levels

*  Metabolism changes

*  Weakened immune systems

This list does not begin to identify all the problems. Matching blood type and pregnancy diet guidelines can prevent or reduce symptoms related to these common problems. There are four blood types.

*  Type 0
*  Type A
*  Type B
*  Type AB

The antigens in each blood type react differently to the lectins in food. Too much of an antigen causes blood clotting, acid buildup and immune system deficiencies to name just a few problems.

A Perfect Match

To match up blood type and pregnancy diet guidelines, doctors have determined basic food guidelines for each blood type.

* Type O is primarily compatible with a diet of animal flesh and vegetables. You should eat lean beef and certain vegetables such as pinto beans or collard greens.

* Type A is compatible with a plant-based diet. You should eat steamed or raw vegetables, lentils, whole grains and berries.

* Type B is compatible with a varying diet. You should eat seafood, beef, lamb, oats and green vegetables.

* Type AB is compatible with smaller meals eaten more frequently throughout the day. It includes lamb, turkey and cultured dairy products.

Your blood type and pregnancy diet can help you insure that you remain healthy throughout your pregnancy and your baby develops normally. Maintaining a strong immune system is crucial. Preventing your body from fighting off unwanted lectins in food can possibly make the difference between days of sickness and a sickness free nine months. Like any diet plan, there are certain considerations. Even with Type O blood, you must watch how much animal fat you consume. Check with your doctor before changing to any blood type and pregnancy diet plan.

Pregnancy is a time in a women's life when she is at her most feminine. Only women can give birth, bringing new life into the world. But it is also a time when a woman can be overcome with emotions because of feeling heavy and anxious. The anxiousness arises from worrying about whether she is doing everything she can to make sure the baby is born healthy. A pregnancy diet plan is a weighty topic because it concerns not just the health of the mother but also of the growing baby.

Weighing In

Being pregnant is a wonderful experience, but it requires changes in your life even before the baby is born. The most notable change in the beginning is the need for nutrition geared towards both mother and baby's health. You are not thinking for one anymore – it's now two! Weighing in on the topic of nutrition means first understanding the changes in your pregnant body's nutritional requirements. A pregnancy diet plan addresses issues particular to the baby's development and maintaining the mother's health.

* Increased vitamin and mineral requirements for general health

* Increased need of particular vitamins and supplements to address specific issues such as birth defects and higher calcium depletion

* Need to avoid some foods that can hinder proper fetus development

* Increased need for calories on a limited basis, varying by trimester

* Need for attention to a balanced diet

In our affluent societies, it is easy to be tempted by ready-made food at fast food restaurants and in the grocery store. But the general rule of thumb is to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible. Ready made food is frequently loaded with salt or saturated fat, both of which are not good for either you or the baby. When determining what is best to eat, there are simple pregnancy diet plan guidelines that should steer you in the right direction throughout the pregnancy.

Counterbalance

The goal of a pregnancy diet plan is to counterbalance the additional nutritional needs created by the growing baby.

* Folic acid is a basic nutritional need for woman at all stages of their life from pregnancy to menopause. A fetus requires additional folic acid to aid in cell division.

* Eat green leafy vegetables to maintain iron levels

* Consume enough calcium to offset increased need for baby's development

* Insure you eat enough protein daily to insure baby's proper growth

The actual levels required vary by woman. It is important to consult with your doctor and establish the basic pregnancy diet plan needs. The important point to remember is that a pregnancy diet plan does not use vitamins or supplements to replace a healthy diet. They are intended to enhance your food diet by making up for shortages of nutrients in the food you are eating.

It seems as if complete strangers are experts. But you are taking no chances. You are going to stick with the pregnancy diet menu your doctor recommended. So when strangers offer advice, you smile and say 'thank you' and go about your business. You are happy knowing that the diet you follow will work to give your baby the very best chance for a healthy start.

A Banquet of Nutrition

Pregnancy is difficult enough without worrying everyday about whether you are getting the right nutrition. Each day's meals should be a banquet dedicated to your health and the health of your unborn baby. But this banquet doesn't mean eating too much food or eating too many rich foods that make you sick for days. This banquet is made of foods from a pregnancy diet menu offering the right nutritional servings.

1. Eat whole grains daily. This may include brown rice, oatmeal or whole wheat bread. Whole grains contain fiber and essential vitamins.

2. Eat fruit every day. The fruit can be in any form including canned or fresh. If you buy fresh fruit, make sure it is thoroughly washed to rid it of possible contaminants such as pesticides.

3. Eat dark green vegetables daily. Dark green vegetables include broccoli and spinach. Dark green vegetables are loaded with iron, which is an essential dietary requirement during pregnancy.

4. Eat brightly colored vegetables several times a week. These include carrots, tomatoes and corn.

5. Use low fat dietary products such as skim milk. You still get the necessary vitamins without the extra calories and fat content.

6. Eat lean meat and chicken. Always make sure it is thoroughly cooked. Meat provides important protein requirements for you and the baby.

7. Eat protein rich vegetables such as lentils.

8. Avoid trans fats. Eat fats in regulated quantities.

9. Limit salt and sweets.

A pregnancy diet menu is a healthy eating plan that actually works for any lifestyle as a nutrition base. Even before birth, a baby needs good nutrition and the right pregnancy diet menu will insure the proper nutrients are provided to meet that need.

Special Guest

A pregnancy diet menu recognizes that there is always a special guest at your meal – the baby yet to be born. A pregnancy diet menu is concerned with serious issues such as low birth weight, high blood pressure, anemia and preeclampsia. Pregnancy is stressful enough without having to worry about whether your diet is adequate. Following a pregnancy diet menu will give you the assurance you need. The diet should be supplemented with folic acid, calcium and a prenatal vitamin. Good nutrition is a basic human health requirement. So when pregnant, watch what you eat, visit the doctor regularly and enjoy this special time of your life.
