Blood Pressure and Birth Control
Practicing birth control is a normal phenomenon and is the central point in the process of family planning. However, the birth control measures can cause several physical changes among the women. It is essential for the woman to consult a physician before taking a birth control pill. It is especially crucial for those women who are suffering from high blood pressure.
Birth Control and Blood Pressure
Researches have found that there is a vital link between birth control and high blood pressure. According to medical experts, birth control pills can cause a rise in the blood pressure of the woman. The birth control pills comprise of a mixture of synthetic hormones called estrogen and progesterone. These hormones perform the role of contraceptives and are important for birth control. It is due to the presence of these hormones that the blood pressure of the woman increases. The main reason for an increase in the blood pressure is the presence of progesterone in the birth control pills. The pills affect the small blood vessels in the body and lead to an increase in the blood pressure.
According to expert opinion, blood pressure increase is not always caused exclusively due to birth control pills. Women can suffer from blood pressure disorders while practicing birth control measures as a result of the following reasons:
1) If the woman has a family history of high blood pressure, practicing birth control would lead to an increase in blood pressure.
2) It is also possible that she may suffer from high blood pressure due to her history of having this disorder during her previous pregnancy.
3) Women having a medical history of heart problems would also have high chances of suffering from blood pressure due to birth control pills.
4) Also any previous medical history of blood vessel problems or other cardiovascular problems increases the risk of the woman suffering from high blood pressure due to birth control pills.
If the blood pressure shoots while consuming birth control pills, then it does not imply that the woman must stop taking the pills. She must take the pills in consultation with the doctor and continue to remain in contact with her physician to ensure that the problem of blood pressure does not rise due to the birth control pills.
