The introduction of birth control pills was a revolutionary step with respect to family planning and birth control. These pills were designed exclusively for women, which eventually became the most popular method of restricting births and preventing pregnancies. The birth control pills comprise of hormones that control the ovaries and the uterus that play a pivotal role in reproduction. However, since the introduction of the birth control pills there have been speculations about the possible effects that the pills would afflict on the females.

Adverse Effects
The pills rarely cause any serious health threats to the women. However, they can lead to grave and adverse consequences among particular type of women. They can cause serious damage among women above 35 years of age or among those who are heavy smokers, suffer from health disorders like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart diseases, blood cholesterol and triglyceride abnormalities and other vascular diseases. Women suffering from these troubles have the maximum risk of developing blood clots, stroke or a heart attack due to the birth control pills.
The pills can also cause defects like aggravating migraine headaches, gall bladders diseases, increasing blood pressure and in extremely rare cases even a liver tumor.
These are some of the significant and possible side-effects of birth control pills used by women. Researches are being conducted to devise pills that would cause minimal or zero side-effects.
