In today's world, the concept of artificial birth control has caught fire and the devices and medications are easily available and have been sanctioned to be legal by all the health commission in the world. Protected sex is the key to population control and family planning and hence the need of fertility awareness and information about the efficient birth control methods is on the rise. Science has successfully managed to invent various means and ways for both males and females to plan a family and these techniques compromise of the barrier methods, oral contraceptives, intrauterine devices and hormonal sterilizations.

Androgens and birth control

The birth control pills are an instrumental factor in reducing the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and LH that is produced by the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands. Basically these act as stimulating hormones for the process of ovulation. These hormones are also required in the female body to produce the male hormone – androgen in small quantities. From the age of puberty, the female body produces the hormone androgen in small quantities. The minor male characteristics and extra hair growth on the female body is a result of the same hormone. The birth control pills reduce the production of the androgens also considerably and the major hormones almost take over completely. The consumption of these oral contraceptives anyhow regulates the menstrual cycle and the excess hair growth also decreases considerably. If the production doesn't decrease on its own, the specialists prescribe anti-androgen medication like spironolacote and finasteride. This hormone is also responsible in boosting the oil content in our body which results in acne. The birth control pills act efficiently even against the acne. The levels of this hormone should to be certainly regulated and many a times the birth control pills can be advised merely for this very cause.

The Final Word

The male hormone in the female's body is as important as the other normal hormones that are produced by the ductless glands. If the content of androgen exceeds a certain level, conspicuous signs of male attributes are visible and hence one should get a check up done in time to avoid any complications.
